Today, A Snow Globe

Yesterday, I was A minuscule granule Not even an exceptional one Exactly like the rest Aimlessly floating Stirred by some outside force Landing at random On a landscape of plastic smiles Manmade features Where snow never melts Bouncing and blending Into a flurry of insignificance
Today, I am The entire snow globe Feeling the frenzy of flakes As they swirl and settle And land where they may I cannot free what’s been trapped inside Nor can I see what’s contained within Existing for others to see How movement can cause chaos Until the stillness Which never lasts long Until things shake right up again
Tomorrow, I’ll be The one who holds this miniature world Active observer To a scene that never changes But that would be wrong Because every tip upside down Creates something new When the pieces scurry Like little mice finding their places On top of a figure or sleeping below Some are quick to stop their plunge Others take their time to fall with grace Allowing me to witness The beauty of a storm
