To Worry or Not to Worry

A free verse poem

Photo by Kyle Broad on Unsplash

Two weeks or more Strange, sometimes Scary dreams in the night, Then short temper, followed by remorse and regret During the days.

Is this occurring to others? Happening to all? Who do we call ‘all’? Is it in fact all Americans?

Even though half of us Lose sleep with worry About what the other Half thinks and believes? Our reasons may differ, But the result is the same.

Distrust rising from lies And broken promises, Extremist views, plots And threats of violence Keep sleep at bay.

Is this happening Only in America? Isn’t a miasmic mist of fear Spreading everywhere Violence prevails?

It’s actually not a new miasma Only now more of our world Is perhaps devolving into old ways We thought we had outgrown.

I hope I’m wrong, That all is well, And I simply need Better sleep habits.

I hope so. I fear I’m not.
