Summary

The article satirically suggests that the city of Wilmington, NC, should prioritize the construction of more Dollar Generals, automatic car washes, and luxury apartments as solutions to civil unrest and community improvement.

Abstract

In a satirical take on the civil unrest in Wilmington, NC, the author proposes that the city's focus should be on increasing the number of Dollar General stores, automatic car washes, and luxury apartments. The article humorously argues that these additions are essential to the city's progress, suggesting that the ability to easily access cheap goods, convenient car cleaning services, and upscale living spaces are key to addressing the city's deeper issues. The author also dismisses the concerns of local protestors and urges citizens to support the status quo by advocating for these amenities at city council meetings, while also acknowledging the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement and providing links to local organizations that support the community.

To My City Wilmington, NC

Hey Wilmington, NC. I know the solution for the civil unrest going on right now and what we need to be talking about at our city council meetings.

1. We need more Dollar Generals. I need to be able to buy my cheap cleaning products from Corporate America on every corner. If I can’t spit and hit a Dollar General, then we have a serious problem. We need to do better Wilmington.

2. We need more automatic car washes. I’ll be honest. I wash my car in the driveway to save money, but as a free American, I deserve to choose to take my car to a fancy car wash whenever I want. Have you used a touchless drive-thru car wash before? Those things are cool!

3. We need more luxury apartments. How will underserved communities improve if there aren’t more half-empty high rises with modern gyms and full coffee bars available?

If you are a concerned citizen like me and are worried about these ‘serious’ issues, don’t read and have serious conversations about the demands in this article from the local protestors. If you are afraid’ that the status quo will change and that underserved communities will continue to be put on the back burner, then I have the only real solution. Let Mayor Bill Saffo and the Wilmington City Council know you want to see more Dollar Generals and car washes. You will also need to continue to ignore the voice of Devon Scott, who has balanced ideas to help the community.

I’ll see you at the next City Council meeting to express my car wash shortage ‘concerns.’ And before I leave I need to say one more thing. Black lives matter.
