The Authentic Eclectic
To Me, Love Is a Million Tiny Little Things
To most difficult questions, love is usually the answer

I was excited to read The Garrulous Glaswegian’s post inviting love-themed stories. I’ve already written about how I met my soulmate, so I settled back to think what love meant to me.
The answer?
Love is a million tiny little things.
I am touched by love every single moment of my life, even when I am alone, because my soul smiles when I think of my friends, family, and acquaintances.
To me,
Love is my mom
- sitting awake at night dozing over a book when I sat up late to study
- saving all the blue clothes clips and the soft ones for her grandson’s clothes just because he likes blue
- going without a meal so I could get enough
- calling me on the phone and placing the phone near the speaker of the radio so I can listen to my favorite song
- packing three times the food for lunch so my colleagues at work can enjoy it
- holding my hand and praying, soothing me through my sixteen-hour labor pain
- whose kick-ass attitude was an example to us all. After surgery, she was back in the kitchen insisting on making rotis even though she had tubes draining fluid from her side
- being generous and forgiving to a fault, because she believed in focusing on the good

Love is my husband
- the source of my daily dose of love
- staying awake, pacing the floor when I work late so he can switch the light off (yep, my folks freak out when I work late!)
- telling me I am attractive even when I step out of the kitchen, with a soiled towel around my neck, sweaty after doing the dishes, and raise my arms to cool off. Not a pretty sight. Still, proves beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
- affectionate and supportive when I was upset about being diagnosed with diabetes
- joining me in my diabetes diet just to buddy up
- always believing in me
- eating together, singing together, praying together
- laughing over burnt toast
- considering laundry his responsibility (I know, right?)

Love is my son
- accompanying me on a 50-minute brisk walk every day even when he doesn’t really feel like
- asking me what I did while he was away at school, and expecting a detailed answer, omitting no detail, however slight
- being supportive and understanding my work deadlines
- smiling at me every time we see each other throughout the day when we are all at home
- writing me a long poem for my birthday — I have a whole book of these now
- singing to me
- showering me with kisses and hugs
- hanging out with me in the kitchen to help with the cooking as he continues our conversations

Love is my friend
- calling me out of the blue because she sensed I felt low
- conspiring with my family to plan a surprise for me
- waiting for me in the rain, because she promised
- never forgetting a single occasion in my life even when she gets the date wrong
- putting up with me exactly as I am
- telling me she loves me every time we connect
- bringing over a gorgeous chocolate cake, thinking it is my birthday, three months ahead of the actual date, and insisting it is the right one
- sending me a photo with arms outstretched when I am upset

Love is …
- being hugged for no reason
- having girlfriends who care
- an unexpected smile
- a kind look, a gentle touch
- rejoicing in others’ success
- giving without expecting
- focusing on the positive
- the sight of empty plates after a meal together with family
- the joy in my grandmother’s smile when I chatted with her and massaged her feet
- watching the setting sun with family on the terrace
- dropping what I am doing and rushing out to see a full moon
- the look of appreciation as I pull out a trolley at the supermarket for an elderly shopper
- the anticipation on my friend’s daughter’s face as I hand her a gift, even when she knows exactly what is inside
- the sight of our family sharing the dusting and cleaning
- the sight of an empty sink, the magic of not knowing when it was cleared up
- an empty laundry bin
- the sound of the doorbell, receiving a parcel, and opening it to see something I wanted
- a clean backyard
- the fragrance of a bouquet of roses from my family to celebrate just another day
- the ping of a text on my phone to see a hilarious joke from an old colleague who thinks only I can get it
- the peals of laughter that ensue when we’re happy — even if it is a fart joke
- the pleasure on the faces of our area municipal workers who keep the streets clean when I hand over bottles of juice and urge them to take a break

Love is divine. As the saying goes, without love, life would be like a broken pencil — pointless.
I am fortunate to have unconditional and non-judgmental love in my life, with soul connections that feel like a giant hug.
Love often needs no words and fills us with positive energy. Love means being there for each other, no questions asked.
