To Market! To Market!

It’s 8:00 on Tuesday and the market is now open. People come from towns all around the county to sell and barter and buy.
Today, I’m just looking… At the bright autumn flowers, the home-grown vegetables, the handmade brooms and spoons, enjoying the sights and sounds, the sensory appeal.
Over the crowd and the smell of meat rolls roasting on the grill, you can hear a lady shout: “Come on now, won’t you buy? I’ll sell these socks for a good price!”
Another seller makes cheerful banter: “Summer’s coming and that’s why they’re not selling.”
“Nah,” she laughs, “But wouldn’t that be nice?”
The sellers are in good spirits as they brave the crisp fall weather. They have plenty of time to push their stock. It’s just 8:00 a.m. on Market Day. The morning rush hasn’t even begun.
