To Fold In to Fit In or to Be You and Belong?

A reflective poem

To fit in is the origami of folding yourself up, all tiny, to slide into the ever-closing space accidentally left open for you.

To belong is to be genuinely welcomed into a space held open, waiting with open arms to embrace who you truly are.

Thank you to Aimée Gramblin’s weekly prompt challenge to read others’ pieces and to be inspired into creating something of your own. For this piece, I was inspired by Ailsa Bristow’s “Belonging”. The concept of fitting in vs. belonging is also a recent one I learned from this blog post.
