Writing About Fiction

To Fiction or Not To Fiction

That is the question

Why are you on Medium?

Could it be your favorite place to read online? Are you here to write? And write what? Inspirational pieces? Productivity? Something informative?

Medium is full of stories.

We are all here for different reasons, but we’re united in the spirit of great writing — both for enjoying and creating it.

While I found Medium for the productivity articles and the freelance writing advice, I’m here to stay because of the wide variety of fiction I’ve discovered here.

I’ve found a vast vault of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and mystery by authors who either have novel aspirations or just like writing it for fun. I’ve also remembered — I write fiction. I have fantastical author aspirations. So I try to write plenty of fiction and publish.

Medium hasn’t always been a great place to find fiction, but that is certainly changing. Every day, more and more fiction is popping up on this platform. That’s a good sign.

Fiction isn’t just a mindless escape.

A good novel or short story can be a vehicle for truth. Sci-fi, in particular, has a legacy for posing philosophical questions. Just because we can build a death robot of destruction or land on this new planet doesn’t mean we should. Horror often delves into the human psyche to explore dark thoughts. In mystery novels, the main character is usually battling personal demons. Fantasy plays with societal norms and possibilities.

Storytelling is important, regardless of who’s telling the story and why. Medium is a place for good storytelling. What better way to do that than with fiction?

Medium is known for personal stories. You can still express a personal experience in fiction form. Sometime it’s not as straight-forward, but you can embed your life into a great story.

Fascinate me with your stories.

In 2024, I’m putting a greater focus on my works of fiction, more than I have up to this point. If you follow me, yes I’ll still write other articles, but for the most part there will be more fiction in my profile. Fiction is what keeps me on Medium, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Fascinate Me Fiction is my own fiction publication. I started it months ago, and it’s now starting to take off and grow. I have some writers over there who are also excited to share their stories. I have some great updates and announcements coming to the pub for the new year, too.

Fascinate Me Fiction is my contribution to the fiction footprint on Medium. I hope you, too, will see the value of great fiction flourishing here. Maybe you have a short story or two in mind? Share it on Fascinate Me Fiction.

See you there!
