To Excel In Life — Write Your Goals
The best management lesson learned — Episode 13
I attended a workshop 20 years ago having the title “Release Your Brakes”.
The focus of the workshop was to help individuals to be successful in life, and the modus operandi was very simple — write the goals that you want to achieve and when you want to achieve them.
Along the same lines, I found a very interesting story about the famous movie star, Jim Carrey.
In 1985, before Jim Carrey hit stardom, he wrote a cheque for USD 10 million in his name for acting services rendered to be cashed 10 years later. All the time, he kept the cheque in his wallet, and coincidently in November 1995, he got a lead role in the blockbuster movie “Dumb and Dumber” for the same price as his cheque.
The above is a perfect textbook real-life example of making goals in life and achieving them. However, it may not always work the way you plan. But so is life. You win some and you lose some.
It is always better to be conscious of your life’s ambitions and aspirations. When you write a date against your goals, you are likely to work in a way to realize them. So, it becomes a twin-blade sword. You not only keep yourself awake with your goals, but also the timeline that you should accomplish them.
Whether you reach your life’s dreams and destiny, but is there harm in trying?
I hope you enjoyed today’s episode. See you tomorrow!
