To Curate Or Not. That Is The Question.
It's happened to me.
Does curation make a difference? I’ve no doubt it does and was delighted to receive the hallowed email the other day. I’ve been creeping around writing and reading since February this year.
What makes a piece go viral or curated. God only knows. It may well be a case of hitting a nerve at the right time in the right place. I doubt I’ll ever work it out. There are obviously subjects that are currently trending and vitally important such as Black Lives Matter and the upcoming American elections, not, of course, forgetting the tragedy of COVID-19 that has ended numerous lives and forever impacted many other lives badly.
But there are so many other subjects that strike a chord with folk. Mental health, relationships, digital living, working, and earning a living either in your workplace or in your tracksuit in the front room.
You can never know which day you will write that piece that strikes a chord with someone, somewhere. And that is the magic of it all, those words, your words can have an impact and may lead to curation and viral reads.
But curation is the very icing on the cake and I’m enjoying every crumb of cake beneath that icing.
Writing is growth and learning. For you and others around you. I never thought I’d be writing poetry about some pretty dark things but I have and I can. It’s allowed me to push the boundaries of my mind.
And as for the holy grail of curation, just keep on keeping on. It happened to me and it will happen to you too.
Your writing will hit a nerve somewhere, someday, with someone. And the magic lays in the fact that you won’t know when that day is until it comes and taps you on the shoulder.
