75 Words And A Joke
To Change The Future, Take Action In The Present
And Japanese noodles
In this story I comment on a quotation by Jane Goodall from a story by Kathryn A. LeRoy
At some point in our evolution, we developed this ability to communicate with words. Our mastery of language allowed us to teach about things that weren’t present. We could pass on wisdom gleaned from the successes and mistakes of the past. And we could plan for the distant future.
These are indeed powerful tools.
Their dark side is that we believe in the reality of the past and the future. The past and the future are imaginary constructs of our minds. They are not real. Only the present is real. We change the future by our actions in the present.
The majority of Americans believe in a more prosperous and egalitarian future. It will not happen if we don’t take action in the present.
What do you call noodles that don’t drink?
Soba
