To be, or not to be?
Some Reflections on Life’s Decisions.

“To be, or not to be” opening phrase of speech by Prince Hamlet from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet Act 3, Scene 1, This profound opening line one of most widely known and quoted lines in modern English literature.
Star Trek’s sixth film (1991) named after “Undiscovered Country” line from Hamlet’s speech, However Klingon interpretation refers to future and not death.
I’m a practicing stoic, Taking full responsibility for my actions and decisions and “To be or not to be?” sums up my approach to life, Why?
“To be or not to be?”
Often in life encounter decision makers who make one sided often biased decisions, Once in business Realised there was deeper dimension to simple questions.
There are two questions “To be or not to be?” and “Not to be or to be?”, Ideations and research showed approach to addressing questions often biassed outcomes, Confidence gained if both questions lead to same answer, Doesn’t mean answer is correct.
“To be or not to be? spans spectrum of possible answers, Bereft of perfect knowledge means each choice lacks precision and open to interpretation.
My Problem: To be or Not to be?
1998 or thereabouts, Diagnosed with diabetes type II, Helped my father during his dying days of advancing diabetes, Now my turn, To be or not to be?
2023 still here, Made decision “to be”, Decision was aspirational and better expressed as desire to avoid alternative “not to be”.
Insidious diabetes, Taking medication controls symptoms, Prolonged father’s life, But without lifestyle changes organ failures inevitable.
Having decided “to be”, Explored degree or quality of “To be”, Considering family adopted goal of “being useful” with qualification of “as long as possible”, After all death is inevitable.
Did the rounds of specialists and clinics, Maybe unfair in my opinions, Decided not to accept medication, Concentrate on fixing lifestyle to control diabetes.
Lucky to have sympathetic family doctor, New diet and exercise regime, Blood glucose testing, Attention focused on dietary options many surprises, Weight training and forest walking, Medical checkups, Full blood tests, Bone loss tests, Tweaking and trying, Good research fun.
Enjoy better health, Body in better shape, Blood glucose measures normal, But diabetes remains just slowed down, Still working, Still helping family, Still useful, Enjoying life.
Blessed be.
