To Avalon

A poem

Let down your hair, Fasten your belt, The shadows are near, With the night’s charming spells.

A star to the left And a moon to the right, In go the charms — Protect from bad eyes.

White robes brush the floors, And a veil up her head, Black mantle through the shoulders - She is ready to be wed.

Green eyes linger, And a tear runs her cheek - A sense of bewilderment As she falls to her knees.

Enchantments and blessings Seem like curses to her. They say “Oh, you are lucky, Gods are waiting for you!”

As they walk to the stream Cold water washes her feet, People gather to watch her — Now she passes the gate.

Air pipe strangled, White cloth soaked to the bone, Green eyes wide open — She isn’t yet gone.

They say blessings come When we least expect. Being wed to a god Is not a fate to forget.

People cheer, people sing - Good things coming for them. But the maiden is gone, Falling into the depth.

This is my first time writing something based on a prompt. I always found it constraining, yet saw how much joy it brought to the people participating. It can’t hurt, right?..

Thank you Tree Langdon for starting such a challenge — it was an interesting experience. A first, but not the last!

I was struggling with the keywords — Gate or Gateway. Music offers immense horizons of inspiration — I often listen to Adrian Von Ziegler.

Funny enough, the talented composer wrote a piece about gates... These musical notes guided my nib throughout the journey. I would like to be confident and imagine that my scribbles and this music go well together. But the audience shall be the judge of that…

My scribbles dive into a variety of topics. Yet whether I scribble fantasy or horror, highly opinionated or research-driven pieces, I hope it leaves you with something to ponder: makes you feel better (or worse?..), strikes an inner monologue (hopefully, voiced out in the comments!) or simply gives you something to chew on, inspiring to keep the creative ball rolling.

Thank you for reading!
