We have a short time to live, and we want to have a good quality of life and want to pursue something that we love. I also want to do this instead of working on something that I don’t enjoy.

For recent years, I still have that mindset to not work on something that I don’t enjoy. What I mean by this is that I don’t give so much willpower and procrastinate myself to it.

Later on, I’ve realized that this is not a great mindset to have. I have to say to you that,

Life is unfair!

I have to say like this is because you are not always working on something that you enjoy. We are human beings that should work with others. You have to work to someone regardless of whether you like the job or not.

I know that you want to have a good quality of life, and so do I. You still can pursue someone else and also work on something that you enjoy.

The article will show you how I work on something that I don’t love to do, and I have to work on it, but still can enjoy for pursuing things that I enjoy.

You Have To ‘Eat Your Frog’ First.

Brian Tracy, one of the famous motivational public speaker, publishes this book called ‘Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time’. Probably the term ‘Eat That Frog’ sounds weird at first, but it actually makes sense.

What does he mean by that term is actually to work on something that you don’t like at first. You prioritize the work that you don’t like at first.

Rather you procrastinate your task, and then you don’t do that, you should work on it first after you’ve waken up. To make sure that you don’t forget on which task that you must do, you have to make the plan before you get asleep.

Some people, including myself, usually got confused after waking up. By making a plan for the next day, and prioritize with ‘eat your frog’ principle, you will be more prepare and have a plan which task should we do at first.

When you prioritize things that you hate, and it’s also urgent, you will become more productive.

Emphasize that ‘Your Work impacts others’

Here is what I mean.

Suppose you are working in a company, and you don’t like the job.

You will probably not push yourself to maximize your work, and also you feel that your work is just pressure for your life.

Let me give you an example.

I will give you one of the lessons from Alamanda Shantika when she talks on a podcast at Inspigo.

She is founder of Binar Academy, and also ex-Vice President of Go-Jek, one of the largest startup in Indonesia.

She gives a talk on how she works on Go-Jek. Go-Jek is an agile company that delivers the product faster.

She says that there will be a time where someone at the company feeling stressed out and not feel good about it.

She gets this lesson from Nadiem Makariem, ex-CEO of Go-Jek, that teach to all of his employees, including Alamanda itself, that,

If you feel stressed out, remind yourself that you are working not just for yourself. It’s about the people. The drivers have to collect money to their families. Your work impacts the people who need it.

That lesson reminds ourself that people rely on your work. It’s not just about you, but it’s about others also. You probably think that you work only for your boss, but keep in your mind that people are relying on you.

So, make an impact on others.

Just Do It and Start!

It is not about the step to the goal. It is about how you start to achieve the goal.

I have an experience of working on something that I don’t like to. It is a final project for my course. I don’t have any experience at that time, and I also feel frustrated because is getting closer to the deadline, and I still not making progress yet.

At that time, thankfully, my friend comes to me and encourage me to finish the work. Because I’ve known that, is not just me that getting tired and also other people. So, I get to start on my task.

And finally, I finished the work. Despites things that are difficult at first, but I can handle it because it rewards me through times when things that I’ve done is working.

Don’t procrastinate yourself and get to work it! It is really hard at first, but if you start to work, you will make progress on each time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we know that life is unfair. We want to pursue things that we love, and we want to achieve our dreams.

It is not because you don’t have time, but It is because you cannot prioritize things, and procrastinates all the time.

With that advice that I’ve given to you, I hope that you can apply it to your real life, and with that, you can pursue your dream and work on things regardless of whether you enjoy the job or not.
