Tips for Getting Into $100 Club

My strategy you can copy

Everyone has reasons for writing on Medium. Some people write exclusively to pass time and hone their writing skills, and don’t care about the money. Others come to Medium for both: to hone their writing skills and make some money too.

According to statistics, about 7% of writers on Medium earn $100 or more each month. While getting to that amount may take some time, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible if you put your mind to it.

I’ve been writing on Medium since May 2020 and before Medium implemented the algorithm changes, it took me close to a year to get into the $100 club. The truth is, it wasn’t easy, and for me, it meant I had to publish over 100 articles before I saw any results.

Even with the recent changes to the algorithm, I believe it’s still possible to get into the $100 club if you implement the right strategies. Here I’ll share my proven strategies on how to increase your chances for success.

Publish often

Regular publishing is key to being successful. Especially after the recent algorithm changes, Medium tends to reward those people who publish content more often. The more you commit yourself to the platform, the better results you will get.

Consistency beats bad luck, hands down.

However, that doesn’t mean you should crank out substandard articles. You do need to put in more time to write quality articles. And you may not always have time to write quality articles. Quality articles consume a lot of time and research.

So, I found the way around it and I call it the “mix and match method.”

With this method, you can write long-form quality articles and mix them in between with quick and short posts. This way you get the best of both worlds — you feed the algorithm AND you write quality articles that will help you build your audience.

If you’re strapped for time, you can always write short-form posts. A great publication for Short-form is The Shortform which I highly recommend. And the good thing about short-form is that you can write a quality short-form post in less than 20 minutes.

Read, clap and highlight

To get most of the Medium, you need to be an active member of the community. Show your interest in other writers by reading their work.

Put aside some time every day to read, clap and highlight articles of other writers. The more you engage with other writers, the more you will get out of the platform.

The takeaway

Getting into a $100 club takes time and commitment. For many writers, it takes about a year to earn $100 and above. If you want to be successful and achieve results, initially focus on writing and publishing often. Don’t obsess over earnings or low views. This will help you stick to writing in the long term. Read and clap on other people’s articles, which will help you build community and find your audience.
