Time to Get Serious About Writing

My Schedule is Clear

I feel like I’m free. Finished up the tax prep for 2023 the other day. My husband took it to our tax lady yesterday, so that the whole horrible project is done. This is something I think about all year long and end up berating myself to no end when I have trouble both starting the work and continuing it.

It absolutely interferes with my creative process. Each year I swear I will not allow it all to pile up. Again, I resolve that will not happen this year. To that end, I will work for one day every month and just get the stinker out of the way.

I am also going to begin working with the Writers Mastery Academy. I have a six-month membership I got via last November’s NaNoWriMo writing event. NaNoWriMo always gets together a keen collection of software programs and offers for writers at discounted prices. Over the years I’ve purchased Scrivener and Atticus, both terrific writing platforms. No monthly subscriptions for either of them. They reside on your computer as desktop applications. I’ve written two books with Scrivener and one book with Atticus.

Yes, there is a learning curve with both programs but I can say they are both more stable than Word has proven to be for me. Word at 200,000 words just doesn’t act right.

Last November I spent $18 for a collection of books about writing and the six-month subscription to the Writers Mastery Academy from a group called Humble Bundle. They appear to concentrate heavily on computer games, but the bit for NaNoWriMo writers was all about writing. I downloaded 25 different books about writing as pdf files to my computer. With my time freed up now I am plunging into the Writers Mastery Academy. I don’t know how much I’m going to get done before the end of July (I pushed the button on 2/1/24), but I’m going to try my hardest and I want to keep organized with what I’m doing.

Right now I’m slogging through the welcome videos. They’ve got a large community of writers who talk to each other like we do at Medium. Now, community is important to me.

You know to become psychic it is helpful to hang around psychics. To be a writer the same is true.

Thanks for reading.
