2022 Writing Prompt Journey
Time to Get Motivated
Introduction to the 2022 Writing Prompt Journey
It’s here again: a New Year full of new possibilities and new resolutions to write more consistently this year. This year will be the year! …Until it isn’t.
I’ve been there more times than I can count. Best intentions can get quickly waylaid by lack of time from long workdays or busy family life.
What helps me when time and motivation are hard to come by? Searching up Writing Prompts! If I don’t have to choose the topic, that cuts out half the work. Now I have no excuse to not just get started!
The 2022 Writing Prompt Journey
So this year, dear friends, I want to share this process with all of you by creating a Writing Prompt Journey for 2022! I know one type of prompt won’t work for all the different writers who come from so many different writing genres and styles, so we will have three different prompt posts shared weekly.
- Fiction Prompts
- Non-Fiction Prompts
- Poetry Prompts
Feel free to check out all three, and if a Poetry Prompt inspires you to write a piece of Fiction or Non-Fiction instead, that’s a welcome bonus! I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone gets inspired in their own unique ways.
The Rules
Honestly, the rules for this Journey are very few.
- Pick a prompt (or two or three!) every week or as often as you have time, and get writing.
- Post anywhere, on your own page or in a publication, and share a link in your post that links back to the original Prompt post. That way more people will know how to find and join in the journey!
- Share a link to your post in the comments of the weekly Prompt post. This is optional, but I would love to be able to read what you come up with.
- Finally, tag your post with “Writing Prompt Journey” so we can all follow along on this trip we’ll be taking together!
The Beginning
So now you’re motivated and raring to go… what now? Where are the prompts?
Fear not, my friends. While the 2022 Writing Prompt Journey officially starts on January 1st, the prompt posts will start going up the week before to give you time to start writing.
The Fiction Prompts will go up first on December 27th, then the Poetry Prompts on December 29th, and the Non-Fiction Prompts on December 31st. The Writing Prompt Journey will be hosted in my publication The Storyteller’s Vault, and if you sign up to receive newsletters there, the links to the Prompts will be going out to your inboxes weekly.
Week One is coming soon, so enjoy your holidays, and I can’t wait to see you back here in the New Year!

If you enjoy my work, why not join Medium as a paying member? This allows you unlimited access to stories (not just 3 free stories per month). Tap this link, or the image below. It helps me out, since I will receive a little portion of your membership fees, but it won’t cost you any extra (bonus!).
