ARC OF THE IMMORTALS Book 2

Time Rifts: 6/ Touzdae Calls Out

Recap: While Touzdae reveals her anger at Jac for acting irresponsibly, she opens up the underlying grief both of them hold for recent events. She weeps for hours. And tries to show the truth to Jac that he does

Recap continued: — not want to see. She leaves for a long 20 hour excursion.

Jac wakes after a nap and is nearly pulled out of the sleep chamber by a sucking vortex. The Entu Monk is in the Library, clinging to a crate.

This episode picks up where the last one ended:

Jac was staring at his left hand on the hatch to their sleeping chamber. A moment ago the hatch was gone and he had been looking into the library where the Entu Monk had been. The library in the hall was a mess, He heard Touzdae call out through his mind.

He closed his eyes and grounded himself. He made strong his heart connection with her. Expanded his being around her, and pulled her close to herself. His love grew for her. He felt her love connect with him. He felt his strength and confidence bolster hers. He continued to expand his love around her. He waited until he felt she was safe.

“Log time for her excursion, please, Comsa.”

The screen appeared:

19:22:04

About 15 minutes later her hopper appeared in the stream and grew closer. He checked his message on the chair outside the Hopper bays and returned to the control room. He watched from the portal as the Hopper slipped inside the bay and he heard the whine of engines subside. His Hivbrit told him to give her space and be available.

He went down the stairs. He passed through the foyer-conference area. He glided down the corridor to the crate and the library and began sorting the books.

She picked up the note without reading it and went aft towards the kitchen. She stopped when she saw the mess at the end of the passageway.

“Jac, are you in there? Where did that crate come from?”

Jac emerged smiling. “Glad you’re safe.”

“Yes, that, thank you for helping me. I can’t decide if I’m hungry or tired. You would like to join me for a meal?”

He nodded.

They didn’t speak until both had finished eating.

“I’m sorry I spilled all my anger on you.”

“Apology accepted,” he paused looking deep into her eyes. “I apologize too, for being such an ass. Have you read my note?”

“Not yet. I will. I will soon. Something tried to pull me out of my body when I was about ready to begin my return to the station. I was never so frightened. Thanks for coming to be with me. Keeping me safe, and reminding me I have skills too,” she reached across the table and took his hand for a moment.

“There is an emergency communications channel on board somewhere.”

“Oh, how do you know that?”

“Comsa, the computer told me. She said you’d have to initiate it.”

“Let’s get her to show us where this is in the Hopper. Comsa is her name?”

“COntrol Mission Systems Analysis or Comsa for short.”

“I see,” she said, lifting the note from her pocket and reading it. “Can we access that info from this monitor?”

Jac nodded.

“What happened in the library?”

Jac talked about what he had thought of as a dream. When he woke he knew it was no dream. I didn’t have time to clean it up.

“Hmm,” she turned away and accessed the monitor. She examined the Hopper chronometers and turned back to Jac.

Touzdae: Before you speak I want to tell you where I went and what I saw. It may shed some light on your previous excursion.

Jac nodded in agreement.

Touzdae: I thought I was going to a time to escape your presence and for a time you were nowhere around. I did have the feeling that your Spirit was with her. Her — the Touzdae of the future, but I had thought it was because you had passed. I was wrong.

Touzdae (looks to Jac for recognition): You returned after helping Tu Mai.

Jac: I have no idea who that is.

Touzdae: You talked about the golden rainbow arc of time. And seeing everything, everywhere all at once. You said although you continued to travel across galaxies you longed to be with her and the family. Her meaning the future me.

Jac: That’s all?

Touzdae: Isn’t that enough? Doesn’t it speak to the time stream bundles that you talked about? And simultaneous time, seeing all time all at once?

Jac: I don’t know. There are hints of truth in what you say. But I have come to see that my investigations into the bundles themselves are too dangerous. I promise not to do it again. (paused) I don’t want to lose you, I don’t want to lose myself.

Touzdae: Can we rest some before you go out again?” She stood behind him and kissed his hair and the nape of his neck.

Jac: May I look at the last part of your trip to see who has trying to pull you out?

Touzdae: Yes, but not right now. I want to sleep and when I wake up I want to see you, feel you beside me. Then after that, we can do all the rest.”

Jac: Ya, that’s good.

She slept and so did Jac. He woke and watched her sleep for hours. And drifted off. He awoke to her kisses caressing his skin.

They made love, held one another, and drifted off to sleep together.
