The Body of Jac is at Stake

Previous Chapter
Current Episode
Phorea designed a suit for Touzdae based on Jac’s flash-freezing algorithm.
“Do you think this will work? And if doesn’t? Won’t it mean that Jac’s body and Tau’s spirit will freeze to death — in less than a nanosecond?” Phorea — worried.
“I was thinking of freezing Tau in the places where he’s attached to Jac’s body. If I can flash freeze the attachment points we may be able to catch Tau’s spirit. We can decompile him back into Tau, the Entu Monk. This will make a clean access point for Jac to reunite with his body.”
“Do you know how to do this?”
“Maybe I do…” Touzdae bragged.
“Reypat, find Touzdae and arrange a meeting between us. There is much to discuss.” The Captain ordered Reypat.
“Yes sir.”
“I want you to personally find her and explain the importance of our face-to-face.”
Reypat stood and exited the bridge.
It was 3 am on ship time. All was quiet. And dark.
Touzdae activated the inside and outside of the suit. She walked out of one of the side rooms down to the locked entrance into the chamber. And stopped. On the other side of the hatch, Jac’s body Tau’s Spirit kept Jac’s body trapped. The half-life chamber contained the mess of Jac’s body with Tau’s spirit. When she arrived at the hatch, she put the outside atmosphere of the suit on standby. Touzdae ran the unlocking sequence through the tumblers without effect. She used manual to unlock it, to no avail.
“No,” a voice came from the door. What is that; my mind or audio? Touzdae wondered and dismissed the notion.
Who said that? She put the question in the direction of the voice.
No answer.
Jac, I know that must be you — telling me ‘No.’ she put her accusatory thought into the door.
I hate keeping things from Touzdae, especially this, Jac sent the thought to Tu Mai.
Seconds passed like thousands of years.
This is the best for you, for Touzdae, the Mu ship, and for the sake of humanity’s survival. You gave your word. Tu Mai sent the thoughts to Jac. Touzdae will understand. She feels infuriated with you and she loves you on the deepest of levels.
Is it time? Jac thought.
You know the answer to your question. Do not hesitate when it comes. Tu Mai thought.
Jac brought the freezing algorithm with him configured in spirit on a quantum level.
Reypat returned from his search for Touzdae. He brought with him new data from the navigators.
“Did you find her?” Tommalar woke. He had fallen asleep in his chair — in the Readiness Cabin.
Reypat stood before Tommalar.
“It would appear she has been hiding away me, but I have news. New calculations from the navigation team.” Reypat handed the captain a scroll of paper.
“This is good news, yes. We can go to Hyperspace Drive now?”
“Yes sir.”
The two of them walked onto the bridge. Reypat asked for coordinates.
“State of the hyperdrive?” Tommalar asked.
“Primed and ready to go,” Reypat stood at his station.
“Start it at factor one.”
The order echoed throughout the bridge. A swish of the distant stars from the Milky Way opened. The Mu created a hyperspace tube and was pulled inside.
Maia and Touzdae stood at the locked hatch at dawn aboard the ship. The lock locked itself. Later when Maia tried it — it opened for her. But as Touzdae approached it crashed shut.
“Oh Jac, stop this,” she yelled into space filled with frustration and fury.
“It could be Tau doing this,” Maia suggested.
“It is Jac. He is hiding something from me.” She sighed exasperated.
“I agree that Jac is hiding something. But I’m not clear on whether Jac or Tau is locking the door.” Maia was firm.
“I’m going down for some rack time.” Touzdae moved off in the cumbersome suit.
What am I doing here? She thought the question to herself.
“We have pulled you here based on your need to know more,” Barua said.
“What? I remember you. Barua, yes?”
“Yes. I am known as Kim now, but you may call me Barua.” Barua/Kim stated.
“When is this?” Touzdae demanded.
“Time is relative. Based on our last encounter tens of thousands of years past from your frame of reference.”
Touzdae walked to a swathe of windows. She gazed out at an old mountain range.
“How is it Jac’s signature is here?”
“He is here — in spirit. Neither of you has released the illusory physical body. This is correct? Yes?” Barua/Kim stated.
“His body is not — ”
Touzdae woke and was upright. The last word she said in Dreamtime rolled off her lips, “ — dead.”
Come quick — emergency! Maia sent the thought to Touzdae.
Touzdae rolled off the bed clothed.
She struggled with the hatch and screamed: “Jac!”
The door popped open. Maia was waiting.
They ran to the open hatch of the chamber where Jac’s half-life chamber. It was empty.
“What! Where is it? Where is Jac?”
