Summary

In "Arc of the Immortals Book 2: Time Rifts 37 — Toward a Final Solution," the crew of the Mu-1, including Jac and Touzdae, navigate complex temporal and dimensional challenges to outmaneuver the Griz-Ack, employing a sophisticated strategy involving faster-than-light (FTL) jumps and interdimensional mines to trap their adversaries.

Abstract

The narrative continues from the previous episode where Jax, realizing his transformation into a reptoid, dons an exo-suit to prevent the spread of potential infection. Jac and Touzdae, sharing a deep connection and experiencing time anomalies, face the imminent threat of the Griz-Ack. They propose a final solution to protect their ship, which involves a complex setup using Needlecrafts and the manipulation of golden light particles within an arc to facilitate FTL jumps. The crew executes a daring plan, deploying modified mines to create an alternate dimension, ensnaring the Griz-Ack ships in a temporal trap. Despite the Griz-Ack's counterattacks and a breach by one of their ships, the Mu-1 and Mu-2 successfully navigate through nuclear explosions and evade their pursuers using precise FTL jumps, showcasing the crew's resilience and ingenuity in the face of overwhelming odds.

Recap: TR36 Chaos in the Making [2]: Jax realizes he had a flashforward. The transformation is progressing. He decides to wear an exo-suit to protect outsiders from possible infection while he fixes the leak.

Jac and Touzdae bi-locate together back to his quarters. Time is off — in the immediate past when it pops into the normal time frame. Jac talks about their future daughter, Majicoloure, referencing the action of catching Touzdae. They go to bed and sleep. When Touzdae wakes she wanders into the kitchen. Jac is making a vegetable stir fry. Touzdae has a couple of bites and leads Jac back to bed.

They make love and become one. Within their oneness, they become One with the One of All.

A series of explosions rips apart the areas where Duplicate Touzdae is being held. The healing team is brought in to determine whether the 60% match on scant DNA is the Duplicate Touzdae’s presumed melted skeleton.

Jax uses an exo-suit to protect others outside his chamber from infectious elements. He knows it will hasten his transformation into a reptoid maybe the Griz-Ack.

Probes communicate the Griz-Ack within 15 to 60 minutes of discovering the position of the Mu One. Th captain is about to engage the new FTL drive when Jac and Touzdae arrive. Jac offers alternatives including a final solution.

The current episode:

Tommalar: The final solution. What is it? And set-up time? Jac: We’ve done it before when jumping the ship into the arc. Touzdae: Eight to ten hours to get every Needlecraft in place. Tommalar: Too long.

LCO — Lead Communications Officer: The FTL — hooked up. The team reports it will be ready to engage in ten minutes. They estimate an 18-minute jump at maximum.

Touzdae pulled Tommalar aside. And explained an alternative plan.

“I like it. You’re in charge of changing the mines,” he told her. He turned to the LCO and said, “Assemble the seers, I need to talk to them now.”

Three hundred modified mines were jettisoned from three areas of the fuselage. Geordae Phorae, Jac, and Touzdae were in the forward observation lounge with nine other passengers. Some were tasked with observation of the operation.

“Explain it again, please,” Geordae asked. Touzdae was better at the bigger picture with moving parts than Jac.

“Strap in everyone,” Tommalar announced ship-wide. “We are engaging the FTL drive.”

All in the observation lounge strapped in.

“The seers mission — to see the Reptoid’s arrival. Timing is precise. Jac uncovered the golden light particles within the arc. He found a way to blend them into the mechanics of the jump. He can explain it more later.” Touzdae said and gestured to Jac to stay silent.

“When the Griz Ack jumps in with three to four smaller ships, the interdimensional mines will activate. They will create a third alternate dimension with a temporary life. The jump and the mines will pull the ships into the temporary dimension. The 6-minute jump will set up a skipping action. Like skipping a stone over a mirror-smooth lake. Engaging the FTL after each six-minute jump along with the golden particles will quicken the skips through the arc and this ball galaxy.” Self-satisfied — Touzdae concluded her talk.

“Nice, I get it,” Phorae said.

“Countdown to Jump in 30 seconds…”

As the Mu-1 and the other Mu in the alternate dimension jumped, three of the four Griz Ack ships jumped in. They jumped in. And caught in the turbulence. They lost all maneuvering control. The Griz Ack entered an alternate temporary 3rd-dimensional space.

The Fourth Griz Ack ship remained safely out of reach. They monitored communications from the three attack ships until severed.

The Griz Ack spoke in a shorthand of buzzes, beeps, and growls. It translated:

Analyze the drive wake for the next exit from jump space and transmit.

They arrived as expected. One minute to cool the drive, engage the drive in warm-up — three minutes. Five minutes to jump.

Thirteen Griz Ack ships jumped in as the five-minute countdown began. The barrage of fire both bullets and lasers reigned down on the Mu. The bullets shattered the shields. Jac and Touzdae were transported to the bridge.

“Plan B, Plan B, Plan B,” Jac and Touzdae shouted in perfect synchronization.

“Remind me,” Tommalar snapped.

Jac jumped across the space to a weapons board displacing the officer. He activated the remaining mines and altered them. About three thousand of them. The Mu-1 blinked out of existence into the alternate dimension.

“Strap in, everyone!”

“If I’m correct the Mu-2 will travel along with us,” Jac shouted as everyone strapped in.

“Two, One, Jump!” a female computer voice came over the coms.

The six-minute jump appeared to stop time. Jac’s download from Tu Mai spread out pictorially in a disk-shaped room. Sacred alabaster with gold, turquoise, and a strand of black obsidian lined the walls.

There were billions of pictures. Schematics, still pictures, moving pictures. It was almost too much. Touzdae floated inside a series of data nodes.

Spacetime returned to normal as the jump completed itself.

“All stop!” Tommalar.

“Nuclear Explosions ahead, brace for impact,” the COS shouted.

The Mu-1 and the Mu-2 rocked a bit.

“That wasn’t too bad,” Jac commented.

“The Griz Ack want to drive us out of here to the main dimension,” the COS shouted.

“Break-out radiation protocols,” the Captain snapped the order. “And cancel the next jump.”

“Captain, if we limit the jump to three minutes we won’t pull in the explosions and we can jump out of here.” Jac.

“More like one minute Captain,” An engineer stated.

“Do it!”

“One Griz Ack on board!”

“What! Where? How come the breach incursion alarm didn’t go off?”
