ARC OF THE IMMORTALS Book 2
Time Rifts: 16 / Where Touzdae Went
Touzdae Receives a Gift of the Splice
Recap TR-15: Jac wants to warn others about Tau, but cannot — he is in Touzdae’s time bubble. Jac’s body is on an examination table. The two monks speak but they make no sense.
Suke takes Phorae back in time. Captain Tommalar of the giant spaceship, Mu greets Phorae, Suke. Entu brothers Tau and Ko-Kai are part of the greeting. Phorae describes the three spheres. Tommalar says they have only two that fit the description.
Boygo, the Captain’s chief assistant/counselor shows them the navigation sphere. The other sphere is inaccessible due to control by two rival factions. Holo-vids are shown. Phorea discovers a hologram false bottom and a Lingham Stone underneath the base.
As Touzdae engages in an inner exercise a hum and a fierce wind kicks up. Jac bi-locates to her and calls out. Touzdae takes his hands. Gravity destabilizes and Touzdae loses her grip with Jac’s hands. Touzdae falls through the shaft.
Jac is thrown back into his body aboard the Mu. The others are compressed back into the present moment.
Current Episode:
JimJin and Zenzin rode horses at breakneck speeds through the salt flats of the desert. They rode hard. They rode hard, fast to escape the heat, and for the fun of it. Helmets and cool-suits.
Yac-ivate compoun? JimJin thought to Zenzin
Ya-node didnt. Mote-signal fritzed-out, Zenzin thought back.
They both modified their cool-suits for an increase in heat in twenty minutes.
Touzdae accelerated to light-speed. For how long? She didn’t know.
Zenzin fitted cool pads to the horses and tested the overhead spray for temperature. Cool-nuff, he thought in himself.
As Zenzin entered he JimJin’s thoughts assailed him, Splice on-start… now.
The tunnel zig-zagged snaking as she slowed down. In a glide pattern. Light stopped. She was in the dark.
Lights faded to a soft sunshine of trees, and forests. They replaced the dead machines.
Splice suc-set, JimJin slipped thoughts to Zenzin.
How-lon? Zenzin merged with JimJin to find out. And he moved closer to the apparatus blended with the tree, surrounded by a band of water.
Dat too-mins? Zenzin saw as JimJin nodded “Yes”. The two men moved out into the courtyard of the compound.
They watched as the column of trees descended from the sky with Touzdae inside. In the last thirty feet, she slowed and placed in a column of oxygenated water.
“She said it would be her,” JimJin said aloud.
Now-sow it-iz, Zenzin slipped the confirming thought out there.
“Where is she? She should be here by now?” the guy with the number “2” on his cap strode through the control room to the main bank of holo-monitors. The consoled operators looked at each other and one guy with the number “3” on his cap looked up at Number 2.
“Kurtz will be furious. Unless you find out what happened to her,” Number 2 said with considerable force. Everyone’s faces withered at the mention of his name.
Zenzin and JimJin helped Touzdae out of the tank and into the cool interior of the bunker.
“We have large passionfruit for you if you are hungry or thirsty. Do you have low blood-sugars?” Zenzin said.
“Thank you,” Touzdae, overwhelmed by the change, she sat at the table. The huge opened passionfruit, a citrus fruit, and a few other fruits she didn’t recognize beckoned her. She buried her whole face in the passionfruit and sucked at its fruit. The fruit satiated her needs. The pours in her face absorbed the liquid in the fruit. She felt refreshed and renewed.
“We will send you back. But not where you came from. It will be an alternate dimension,” Zenzin said.
“We will give you this,” JimJin held a small transparent thing in the air. About to speak he hesitated anticipating her voice.
“It’s a memory slab, is it not?” Touzdae wondered.
“Yes, it is. You will need it to remember him and your role. Otherwise, the longer you are in the alternate dimension the more you will forget. Forget about him and your role in time.”
“JimJin means that you will forget Jac. And that is not good. I am Zenzin,” Zenzin spoke again. “We must hurry slow. K is looking for you. That is why — ”
“ — You must get ready. Feed your memories of Jac and your world into the memory ‘tangle and be ready to go back. I am JimJin.” JimJin said aloud.
“I don’t understand,” Touzdae said, bewildered.
“Understand later, the hovercrafts have launched. They will be here soon to take you to K. K is bad man, lost he is. Seeks to find by possession,” Zenzin said.
Touzdae gestured for the slab. JimJin threw it. Touzdae caught it in her left hand, surprised. She had been right-handed all her life. Interface, Touzdae thought.
An interface appeared below the clear memory rectangle. She connected with it and transferred her memories of Jac, Po, Raj, Hannah, and her mafa to the clear small slab. Who is Raj? she wondered. Her Hivbrit answered, Your future daughter.
Zenzin appeared behind her, she didn’t see him move. May I? he asked without moving his lips. “Yes,” Touzdae responded. He slipped a sash around her waist with a small holster on the inside. A pouch for the clear slab, he said again without moving his lips. She slipped it into the holster and secured it.
“Hovercrafts in nine minutes or less,” JimJin said voice calm, no alarm.
They moved. They moved so fast they became blurs. Within 30 nanoseconds a sputtering circle with yellow light dancing around it; appeared.
“You want me to go inside this?” Touzdae said, alarmed.
Excitement later, we all go in. Escape the bad men. Zenzin sent his thoughts to her.
Without thinking she stepped inside, followed by JimJin and Zenzin.
It popped.
Soldiers entered the cabin weapons drawn. There was nothing there and it was boiling inside the metal shed.
