20-DAY POETRY CHALLENGE

Time

A poetry prompt for day 18

Photographer Jonathan Borba from Pexels

I sit in front of my keyboard recalling memories that passed chubby hands clinging to thy mother’s arm while other with a baby doll on track

I sit and think and listen of loud knocks on the door a visitor’s merrily welcomed by my dad and mom in spite

at her signal I readily took flight freely chanting what lies in my brain like crap one by one, two by two the words echoing in lieu three by three, four by four another one runs out the door

soon the rhyme gets done eyes gleaming at the man my eager mom readily cites that’s my dear daughter’s verses, what can you say? she rehearsed it just a few minutes today

I sit before my keyboard I lucidly remember each time my mom teaches me a new sonnet she cheerfully proudly claims to her guests and friends

her baby just delivered one, insightful, enthralling poetry endlessly I’ll be delighted I can make her day

as I sit beside my keyboard I kinda fully grasped TIME quite flies so fast my mom is nowhere in sight she joined her creator many years back I can only tell I miss her a lot

though she left me with an aching heart she will forever stay with might poems, literary pieces epigraphs, verse forms am proud to be my mom’s alternate mold

“Time for yesterday has passed, time for tomorrow has yet to come; let us cherish this priceless moment for soon it will be gone.” — Josh Balerite Acol

Really, time goes by so fast. It’s so hard to be left behind when loved ones are gone. If we will only cherish each treasured moment with them, only then, we won’t regret we are staying. So this I say to you, take a second even just to appreciate and be grateful for all the things and people around you. You’ll be glad you did it before it’s too late.

Thanks so much my friend Sahil Patel for this prompt. You took me way back years behind in a moment of time. Do check out his adaptation for this prompt below:

A note of thanks, too, to all my poet friends who joined this challenge — dear Bhav Bhavna Narula, Geetika Sethi, Ntathu Allen, Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她), dear Doc Fam Dr. Fatima Imam, and dear Doc Dr. Preeti Singh.

Thanks a million for reading! Be well and safe ever.
