TikTok: China Is Not The Only Country With Access ToYour Data
I subscribe to Malwarebytes Labs Newsletter because it covers things connected to social media. On this occasion, they included what I have been saying for months about TikTok and the so-called privacy violations committed by the app.
According to the post, the TikTok Privacy Chief, Elaine Fox, confirmed that China is not the only country to have access to your data. Yes, you read that right! In addition, the user data from the European Union (E.U) is stored on servers in the United States and in Singapore. Why doesn’t this information get mentioned in the news or repeated by high profile public figures? Food for thought.
It is a popular thing to have negative public relations (P.R) with regards to TikTok because it is a Chinese-based app. The plain and simple reason.

As reported by Statista, there are 227.81 million TikTok users in Europe. No country has called for it to be removed. However, high-ranking public officials have discouraged or instituted restriction for employees not to download the app for obvious reasons.
Twitter Takeover By Elon Musk
There has been a lot of focus on TikTok sharing to much information with the Chinese government. Well, Twitter has been around for much longer and has been adopted by users around the world. Is this a cause for concern?
Now, with the Musk takeover of Twitter I cannot see him being a champion of free speech. His track record does not suggest he is wanting to rescue the world to liberate free speech. We have to see if this will change six months ago.
Nevertheless, Anonymous released a video (linked above) about Musk a year ago. The video message did not endorse, but rather condemned all of the actions Musk has had up until the Twitter takeover. For instance they said the following about Musk:
- Tesla is receiving government subsidies
- Not the original founder of Tesla
- Another billionaire with a narcissistic complex
I agree privacy laws have to be enforced for every social media app, and company out there with large amounts of user data. But let’s not kid ourselves since in the United States it is a political agenda to attack TikTok without any foundation.
I think an age restriction for younger users should enforced and enacted. Why? From the perspective of an educator, smartphones have to be used in moderation, especially for younger people. But we know companies have tapped into an unlimited potential by grooming future consumers. This is not okay and more constructive discussions should be covered about this topic.
