Throwback Playlist: Songs of 2000s
Nostalgia: The only way to travel back in time to the 2000s
The year was 2021. My family and I for some reason, decided to time travel back to 2014.
A lady was operating the printer looking machine in this oddly lighted office, and we just had to show up and put our heads near the scanner part to time travel, like in the movies.
On the way back to 2021, I had an unsettling feeling that wouldn’t go away.
My mom and brother went ahead with no problems, but the lady only warned my dad and me about the dangers of time travelling. We might end up in a different place or timeline than we originally intended, and that’s beyond their control. It’s just a late warning that was given to us only after half the family is transported to a different timeline, right? Risky.
Just as my dad was ‘resetting’ his passcode (cause he forgot his password, AGAIN) to go back to 2021, I was anxiously waiting for my turn. I was mentally prepared and even asked my cousin who was with us (in the 2014 timeline) to stay back and wait for me just in case mine goes wrong and I had to stay behind.
Annndd then my alarm went off. I had to wake up and prepare for my zoom class in the next 30 minutes.
I woke up ANNOYED. What a bummer. I was so ready for the highly anticipated drama to start in my head.
How cool it is to live in a movie inside your head? Sometimes, I just love my dreams so much. They can get really exciting.
Anyway, nostalgia is somewhat of a great feeling. That familiar feeling of ‘going back in time’ by consuming media from that timeline, inspired me to start this playlist today.
I’ve been listening to older songs these days as well, as they comfort me better than new ones. I need less effort to listen to them as I am already familiar and I know what’s coming up next, no need to anticipate anything new.
Not sure if anyone else also thinks some music these days (no specific artists, just in general) have…hmm let’s just call it somewhat of a similar sound, but that’s a talk for another day — one that I’ll be up for anytime.
I think it’s an opinion I’ve been hearing around me for years now that I agree with.
Or maybe, let me know what you think in the response? Would love to hear what you think!
Nonetheless, there’s still no argument that the decade of 2000–2010 gave us REALLY great, iconic songs that are still good till this day. And a ton of nostalgia.
I grew up in the 2000s. These are the songs I grew up with and grew up loving at different phases in my life. I’m sure people both older and younger than me would know these songs too.
I had to narrow them down to just 30 in no particular order, though I had more to this list in mind.
Let’s take the trip down memory lane together.
