Gardening is a great activity for outdoor lovers. Gardening not only helps us connect with the planet more intimately, it also brings lots of mental and physical benefits to our life. Moreover, there are plenty of house plants for those who have allergies or no outdoor space for a garden. I want to share with you three reasons to start gardening right now.

Physical Activity

One of the most difficult things to do in our modern society is to stay physically active. Many of us sit at work, then get home and continue sitting. If you, like me, have a family, it gets a little more difficult because more food needs to be cooked, and there is more laundry to be done. Some parents feel that it is nearly impossible to exercise when you have kids — and it is somewhat true, but it doesn’t have to be.

I love gardening. It is one of my greatest passions. I love planting seeds and watching them grow. Having a garden is no easy task; plants need care and attention — especially because they tend to attract pests. To have a beautiful and healthy garden takes a lot of work. I usually garden in the morning right before the sun rises because it gets hot once the sun is out. Even so, I sweat a lot in my garden.

I have lost a total of 9 lbs in my garden. It is not a lot, but the pounds I lost are pounds I wasn’t trying to lose. I have not changed my eating habits; I have simply increased my time in the garden. Gardening brings me a lot of joy, and losing weight doing it is a plus. So if you have been thinking about starting your own gardening journey, don’t be afraid. You have nothing to lose, except maybe a few pounds.

A Place To Relax

There is nothing like having a place where you can go and forget about all your worries. Let’s be honest most of us are weary and stressed. Covid-19 has changed our lives, and we have alienated ourselves from others even more. Having a place in your home where you can relax and meditate can be life-changing.

Gardens are not only pleasing to see, and the aroma of flowers can contribute to our emotional wellness. Plants such as lavender, rosemary, and sage, amongst others, are widely used in alternative medicine. Personally, I love the aroma of rosemary. It helps me relax and detox my mind of negative thoughts. In addition, plants such as snake plants, gerbera daisies, and aloe vera purify the air. Plants are just amazing. Don’t you think?

Save The Bees And Butterflies

It is no secret that our planet is undergoing drastic changes, whether you believe humans are to blame for it or not. Scientists suggest that we can help slow down climate change, which would greatly benefit all life on earth presently and in the future. There are many ways in which we can contribute to helping our planet recover. Starting a garden is one way.

There are growing concerns due to the decrease in bee population and monarch butterflies. You can start a small butterfly garden in a small corner of your home or even in a pot. Not only will a butterfly garden help feed and home butterflies, but it can also help the bees.

You do not need an acre of land to garden. Any space will do, no matter how small. So do not be afraid to start a garden, and if you don’t have much time to put into it, there are varieties of plants that are really easy to care for. Snake plants, purple queen, blanket flowers, milkweed, and many more are not only beautiful plants; they need little care. Also, consider plants native to your area, the local wildlife will love them, and they will thrive.
