Three reasons why Donald Trump will win the 2024 Presidential Election.
A Psychotherapist explores the psychological landscape of the forthcoming election.

I’m no fan of Donald Trump.
In fact, I think he happens to be one of the most dangerous men in the world.
If we had to explore the demographics I fall into —
I’d be defined as a Gay, Catholic, Centrist-Moderate Psychotherapist.
I do not identify as Liberal or Conservative.
I do not champion the Democratic or Republican party.
I wouldn’t even call myself an Independent.
Despite all this, it is overtly clear to me that Donald Trump is absolutely on his way to winning the 2024 presidential election.
This article will explore three reasons why this is so likely, via the perspective of a Clinical Psychotherapist:
- Americans are more likely to choose a Narcissistic Personality Disorder over a Neurocognitive Disorder.
I do not say this with any political bias:
Both of our presidential candidates happen to be sick, older men.
Joe Biden, for example, is absolutely in the very early stages of a severe cognitive decline.
Clinically speaking, Dementia is identified in the DSM-V as a Neurocognitive Disorder, marked by deficiencies within:
- Sustained attention, divided attention, selective attention and information processing speed.
- Planning, decision making, working memory, responding to feedback, error correction, overriding habits and mental flexibility.
- Immediate memory, recent memory (free recall, cued recall and recognition memory) and long term memory.
- Expressive language (naming, fluency, grammar and syntax) and receptive language.
- Recognition of emotions and behavioral regulation, specifically within the course of conversation.
Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, on the other hand, are described in the DSM-V as:
- A grandiose sense of self-importance.
- A preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power or brilliance.
- A belief that he or she is special and unique and can only be understood by other special individuals who can understand them.
- A need for excessive admiration.
- A sense of entitlement.
- Interpersonally exploitive behavior.
- A lack of empathy.
- Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her.
- A demonstration of arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes.
As you can see, our choices are clear — and grim.
It does not help that the average Republican, Conservative or even Moderate voter — doesn’t really care about “personality type” as much as they do cognitive efficiency.
They are not remotely concerned with how exceptionally dangerous it is to give a genuine narcissist the most powerful position on the planet, especially if they feel drawn to the policies and politics of the narcissistic candidate.
As such, American voters are much more likely to choose a coherent narcissist over an increasingly incoherent politician.
In the eyes of many Americans, even more liberal voters —
Joe Biden’s bumbling and disoriented word-salad is becoming harder and harder to ignore.
Despite this, I can assure you that one condition is significantly more hazardous to our country than the other.
2. Traditional and Traditionalist Americans are angry.
Nothing bothers Americans with a traditionalist streak more than social progress.
As a Centrist Moderate, I do feel that progressives, within the last decade in-particular, have certainly presented to the political and social arena as notably unhinged.
Even so, more traditional Americans tend to be furious even when modern progressives have a rational and tempered tone.
On social media platforms —
Conservative (and even Moderate) voters have not held back recently in showcasing their anger, paranoia, resentment and animosity toward groups and individuals they perceive as being more “liberal or progressive”.
To be transparent, I don’t entirely blame them.
Cancel culture, self-victimization, hyper-offended reactivity, trauma glorification, lack of boundaries, policy pressuring and group-think collectivism have not helped true progress prevail or find its way into the hearts of less progressive Americans.
Despite this, it’s questionable as to whether more Conservative Americans even have a heart anymore, at all.
MAGA archetypes, in-particular, are often Evangelical or Born-Again Christians — who have stoked the fires of harsh discrimination and social segregation for decades.
Trump voters across the board also have a tendency to embody more empathetically indifferent and paranoid personality types.
Within Donald Trump, they see an extra-special opportunity to put oppressed or suppressed populations “in their place” — once and for all.
They are tired of the manic/depressive state of modern progressivism and the emotionally reactive “hedonism” they believe it perpetuates.
To put it plainly ..
Many Americans are going to vote for Donald Trump out of spite.
3. Donald Trump has masterfully manipulated half of the country.
I remember how astounded I was when I saw how many people still voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential Election.
Despite such being an incredibly close call, it was still deemed as being unfairly rigged.
Donald Trump can say whatever he wants, do whatever he wants, claim whatever he wants and discredit whoever he wants — without even a shred of analytical contemplation from his voter base.
Within 2024, his broad catalogue of criminal and civil offenses also hold no bearing on his presidential viability.
In fact, they have likely helped him, as the more suspicious voter is prone to view recent events surrounding Donald Trump as confirmation of “a rigged political system”.
A benefit of this, is that Donald Trump has developed a powerful system of doing and saying things, even on camera, that he can thereafter deny in a very compelling way.
It’s what I’ve come to think of as a “hypnotic Mandela effect” of sorts.
As a result, we have an overwhelming segment of American voters who conveniently rationalize or minimize Donald Trump’s darker personality traits and choices.
The Alt-Right also maintains a heavy hand in pushing macro-level conspiracy theories that lead more conservative-leaning voters toward choosing Donald Trump in pursuit of ameliorating evil agendas.
Whomever it is —
Our next President will have to masterfully wrangle how we want to handle our involvement in places like Israel and Palestine, Russia and Ukraine, as well as China and Taiwan.
The rise of Artificial Intelligence and digital currency needs to be handled with fragile care, as do social issues like civil rights, gun-control, inflation and border policy.
Regardless of who wins in 2024 ..
We are in a very perilous place based on the options we are being provided.
