Three Movie Scenes That Scared The Crap Out of Me as a Kid.

These scenes made me sleep with the lights on for a while

Scary movies are good clean fun. Unless you are a little kid. I was taught there’s no such thing monsters but have you seen Sesame Street? Those monsters might be nice, but what about the scary ones?

Poltergeist

Why my parents took me to see this at the age of six I have no idea. Forget the girl getting trapped in a TV. The kid getting eaten by a tree was what kept me up at night.

We had a huge tree in the front yard that looked like the one in the movie. It’s tree’s branches would would rap on my second story window when it was windy. It was windy a lot where I lived and those branches would hit the window hard and all night while I trembled and waited for it to break the window to devour me.

The Gate

In this film the parents leave their kids home alone. The older one throws a party where they accidentally open a gateway to hell. It ain’t a party until a necromancer named Chad summons a demon. Am I right?

There’s a scene where a young Stephen Dorff falls down a hole filled with demons the size of a Smurf. To get out he winds up stepping on one of those demon things and man does it squirm.

To top it off, Dorff grows an eyeball on his hand. Which he stabs with a piece of glass because there’s not a whole lot more disturbing than getting stabbed in the eye with a glass shard the size of a dagger. I watched it a few days ago and that scene still made me squirm.

The Mr. Crestole scene

This disgusting man in every way shape and form sits down, and proceeds to projectile vomit all over everything and everybody around him while gorging himself.

Then when you think it can’t get any worse Mr. Crestole literally explodes after eating a final piece of chocolate.

Leaving you with the most horrific exploded fat guy insides exposed shot that just sticks in a child’s mind forever. The end of that just traumatized the crap out out of me. It really is just fucking disgusting.

There were terrible nightmares that followed watching these. Sometimes they would combine in my dreams. Therapy was probably needed.

As long as there was no nudity my parents were fine with me watching violent horror at the age of 6. My theory is that they were trying to toughen me up to be ready to fight the Russians.
