Three kinds of Crocheted Twists: Mobius and Cook Twists

Defined on paper, by how their corners connect, and using dots to represent gaps

Mobius Twist Strip, and the Two Variations of Cook Twists Squares, on right, once the corners are connected, A to B and C to D ( Photo Property of Author)

A Mobius Twist strip traditionally uses a separate seam to join the two short ends, and that seam is not part of the continuous edge. (Though my method of crochet grows Mobius Twists from a chain, and does without a separate seam, see below at very bottom).

The Mobius twist strip below connects back face kitty corners, through a 180 degree twist, to front face kitty corners:

If you grow it on around its one continuous edge, the blue dots show the order of adjacent gaps to stitch:

Two variations of a Cook Twist use all four edges of a strip as a twisted ring.

The simple Cook Twist, below, connects front-face kitty corners, and back-face, at the other kitty corners:

The third option below uses a twist to connect A and B, while C and D connect behind without a twist:

Here is the order to stitch into the next adjacent gap along a Simple Cook Twist: ( Also applies to a complex Cook Twist)

If you use the three sides of the crochet chain, you can grow-on a Mobius Twist, without using a seam:
