Thoughts Before Sleep
A Poem
Eh, we all have flaws, she said, she thought, she went to sleep
thinking of the flaws in herself, in those she loves, in those she wants to love her or like her,
there’s no way to tell if this is a zen thought, a human though, a resignation, a comfort
the flaws, as follows, flowing from Attachment
wanting trauma
separation ignorance
greed it’s a list, I suppose,
this is not meant to be a list, a reflection, a meditation
falling asleep counting flaws, not sheep, because in a way, in some way it is helpful to know
she is not alone, in these flaws in these human things in these shortcomings that are consistent
and in wanting to be seen as goodness and light as important to someone, as making something of use
of being some sort of human that exists as more than a list of imperfections and flaws.
