Those Eyes

A Poem

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

Those eyes

windows to the soul

open, vacant, lifeless

nothingness

no breath

no life

the end.

Dammit!

Seconds pass and more seconds

an eternity

a gasp, a breath

seconds more

another gasp and another breath

and another.

Alive.

This is a non-fiction poem. I witnessed this exact event as my Dad’s heart stopped and then started again. It’s the eyes that haunt you.

On this Father’s Day 2020 I am so thankful that I still have my father in my life.

Happy Father’s Day Padre!
