Thorny Rose

Monday: How do you (inner child) see me (adult self)?

You’ve blossomed into a rose so pure and vibrant time to shed those thorns

“Every rose has its thorn” and I am no different. This is an ancient proverb that was made into a song by the heavy metal band Poison. It means that nobody is perfect and even something as delicate as a rose, will have its imperfections, the thorns.

We all have parts of ourselves that are completely flawed. Those imperfections serve a very important purpose because they have helped us to develop into who we are. Just like you love the beautiful side of yourself, the rose, you have to love the pointy prickly flawed side as well, the thorns.

The rose is nothing without its thorns. The thorns adds character to the rose and they keep the rose protected from outside dangers. My inner child would like me to be a delicate rose, but I can’t be a rose without loving and accepting my thorns.

The thorns are what helped me to survive and maneuver through life up to this point. They represent the hardships that I faced, the tough times, and the unpleasant pain of this world. Without those thorns, I wouldn’t have blossomed into the person I am today.

So, I will embrace and love my thorns, probably more than I love the rose because the thorns have been my protection. They are the perfectly imperfect armor built around the perfectly imperfect rose to keep out all potential predators.

Love and embrace all parts of you, the good, the bad, and the imperfect.

This was written in response to 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊.’s Monday prompt.

Thank you all for reading. And thank you 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊. for creating the space so that we all can revisit stages in our lives, tell our stories, grow, and heal. KTHT has been a rollercoaster, one that I don’t mind getting on.
