This Week’s Prompt: 20–26.07
All things resilience.

Good morning/afternoon/evening, now and forever!
Before I get into this week’s prompt, I’d like to give a big shout-out to Devieka Bopiah and her new project called “Being Beyond”. Here’s a short description on what it is about:
Being Beyond started as a fun activity amongst two friends to dress up at home and click magazine cover worthy photographs. One loved sarees (Indian garment for women) and make up, the other comfortable dresses and minimum make up. The only condition agreed on — no selfie, no smile. That’s when they realized how difficult it was to give up control of the camera and be in control of their own mind and body. Going past their discomfort, they pushed their limits and did it!
Distorted societal constructs were discussed and they decided upon how to cross over to a space where you come from choice and preference vs expectation and demand, especially if it comes to what you feel, think or look. Word spread amongst family and friends, which is when the thought of a video was conceived.
Being Beyond understands where the world is at today. We see the struggle people face to be defined and acknowledge who they really are and who they want to be. We believe in going beyond, to a safe space which exists within all of us. This is portrayed through the neutral expressions of the people in the video as a reminder for you to know that this space will always exist. We open our gates for everyone willing to be featured, without any biases.

Last week we had an attempt at a more playful prompt. We didn’t get to the end of the game so it remains an ongoing prompt for as long as it will be needed. Meanwhile, we shall return to the classic format and touch upon a topic that’s very dear to me: resilience, a.k.a how we get ourselves together after life hits us full force.
When I think of resilience, two things come to mind:
- The Phoenix bird that raises from the ashes, transformed and reinvented.
- Fire, which of course, goes hand in hand with the Phoenix (transition, cleansing, purification)
I’d love to know what you associate resilience with and, most importantly, how you deal with the process of getting back up when life knocks you down.
As always, be as creative as you wish. There is no right or wrong, there just is.
