Can You Guess What Gave Me an Epic Energy Boost All Day?

Do it again. Play it again. Sing it again. Read it again. Write it again. Sketch it again. Rehearse it again. Run it again.

I am in an excellent mood today. The weather’s great. I also did my citizenship test for the second time and I scored 19/20. I couldn’t wish for better news.

In January, I had done this test and scored 20/20. I was waiting for the authorities to buzz me to officiate the result and issue me a passport. I was rather keen cos I needed that to attend my cousin’s wedding in the UK in June. I don’t like the hassle of visa applications.

Instead, they buzzed me two weeks ago to say they needed me to repeat the test. Here I was looking forward to the future, and they were dragging me to the past.

Not only that but this month I am also prepping for 2 other exams. So this was a distraction. Of course, I was going to study for the exam again. Moreso, Mum felt they probably asked me to repeat the test cos of my first score. Maybe they thought it was a fluke. They needed me to defend my result with a resit.

The letter stated otherwise. They’d said they had an issue with my identification. They needed me to repeat the entire process and redo the test within 3 weeks. The first time I did the test, I remember trying to capture my ID and my facial photos. It was an ordeal. I don’t think they realized that. I suddenly wished they offered the test in person. That had stopped during the Covid-19 era.

I did not want to leave things to chance, so I started reviewing the recommended material a day after I received their letter. I listened to their MP3 files, practiced with questions online, and bugged hubby to role-play with me.

Yesterday, as I sat in the office staring at my calendar, I realized I needed to get the test out of the way as soon as possible. There were just too many things waiting their turn. As soon as I woke up the next morning, I practiced a bit more and then signed in to write the test.

The questions weren’t familiar, but the concepts were. I finished in less than 10 minutes. I submitted and immediately it told me my score; 19/20. I just beamed from ear to ear. Now I’ll just wait for their invitation to other formalities.

My score reinforced my belief in studying repeatedly. As expected, I am going to use the same strategy for all the other exams I have this year. These exams have more material, so I’ll need more time. I think I am going to be smiling a lot later this year.
