CHALLENGE: ACCEPTED, BROLENTINE’S DAY
This or That? Brolentine’s Edition
Just in time for Brolentine’s Day
Woo hoo! The day we never thought would get here has finally arrived. So let’s foam our faces, sharpen our blades and be thankful we all have survived!
Yeah, I don’t understand it either. Something about a BJ’s This or That Challenge brings out the poet in me, but only for a few lines. Let’s get to it!!!
This or That? 1. Beard or No Beard? No beard. I know, it’s a real pain in the chin to have to shave every day, but… you don’t want your woman to end up with a rash, just from kissing you a little too hard the other night? Like back in high school? Oh… That!
2. Superman or Spiderman? Superman. I am a big fan of Spiderman, I mean, you gotta love any kind of man who has a spidey sense. But Superman, the man of steel, will always own my heart. We’ve been fans of every Superman there’s ever been, all the way back to… GEORGE REEVES in the late 1950s.
3. Mobsters or Detectives? Detectives. Since the beginning of time, detectives have always been way cooler than Mobsters. I mean, sure, they can rob banks, and cheat each other at poker games, but when they walk with stiff legs as if they’re about to fall down — Oh. Mobsters? I thought you said Monsters. I still like Detectives better.
4. Jeans or Cargo Pants? Jeans. Corduroy Jeans. Those are my go-to pants. We lasted through the whole pandemic together, my corduroy jeans and I.
5. Camouflage or Plaid? Camouflage. Camouflage cargo shorts, to be specific. My favorite summer outfit is camouflage cargo shorts and a black t-shirt. I know that in the city, camouflage may seem over the top — too much! Why don’t they make cargo shorts out of a fabric that looks like parked cars and tall buildings? That would make it way harder to find someone in the city, don’t you think?
6. Board Games or Video Games? Board Games. Just ask my friend, Wire Editor Newman. He knows how much I like board games. Especially “Mouse Trap” or “Clue”.
7. Pink or Blue? Blue. Did you think my feelings would change my mind, some time since the Gallentine’s Day challenge? Well, they have not. I still like blue eyes and blue skies.
8. Prince or Metallica? Prince. In fact, “When Doves Cry” was the first song I ever heard on my stereo on FM radio when I was unpacking my stuff, and moving into my very first all-by-myself apartment. Of course, the very first weekend, when I was away at church camp, someone broke into that apartment, stole my stereo, my sterling silver class ring (from high school), and about $6.25 in change, out of my dresser drawer. I never did feel safe in that apartment after that.
I miss that ring, and I missed that change for a short while, and I really missed that stereo, as I’ve never seen one like that ever since. But I did enjoy discovering Prince, and all the great songs he prolifically wrote and produced. When Prince died, it was a real loss to the world of music.
And don’t even talk to me about that whole “artist formerly known as Prince” symbol thing he tried to get away with. He will always be known as Prince. Always.
9. Whiskey or Beer? Beer. One or two cans of Coors Light, and only during the Super Bowl. Tap those Rockies! And use the rest of that 6-pack of beer for biscuit-making purposes. You won’t regret it. Just ask Brett Jenae Tomlin.
10. Betty Boop or Jessica Rabbit? Betty Boop. I know everybody loves Jessica Rabbit, so I am casting this ONE vote for Betty Boop as a sympathy vote. At least for now, she can still keep her head held high when she is walking down the street.
11. Basketball or Football? Football. I never understood football. I never even paid attention to a single game, until Ben Roethlisberger came to Pittsburgh. After that, I fell in love with the whole darn team, but especially Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward. Here’s a shoutout to Jerome Bettis too. Thanks, guys, for everything you brought to the game!
12. Dolls or Hot Wheels? Hot Wheels. You’ve got to have hot wheels. You just gotta.
13. Pin Up or Pin Down? Pin Down. My mom helped us choose our wedding date. She wanted it to be pinned down. Go figure.
14. Fruit or Vegetables? Vegetables. Just don’t ask me to eat any of them. But fruit just gets too sticky.
15. Peanut Butter & Jelly or Peanut Butter & Marshmellow? Peanut Butter & Jelly. White bread, no crust, Crunchy Skippy, and Grape Jelly. Now you know my secret recipe for PB&J.
16. Root Beer or Cream Soda? Root Beer. Cream Soda tastes a little too medicinal to me. I’d take a Root Beer, with that fresh-out-of-the-barrel earthy taste, any day of the week. It’s not just for when you’re celebrating Brolentine’s Day, so… don’t hold back!
17. Book or Movie? Movie. But if I really love the movie, THEN and only then, I will read the book.
18.Pirates or Poseidon? Poseidon. I think of Poseidon, his daughter Persephine, and of course those 6 pomegranate seeds she ate during her stay in the underworld.
19. Trains or Dinosaurs? Trains. These two items don’t seem like mutually exclusive items where an actual choice is needed. But if I must choose just one, I choose trains. At least they can get me from point A to point B. No dinosaur has ever done THAT for me.
20. Alter-ego or Mini Me? Alter-ego. It’s fun to have a good reason to put on silly clothes and go out and save the world, every now and then. And since I have no kids, I don’t think a Mini-me is very likely to show up around here, at least not anytime soon.
Can’t resist tagging the other half of my little SWoT team! So here is a Shameless Wall o’ Tags… sending heartfelt gratitude and love for all the support and encouragement ya’ll have been giving me in a steady supply.
