This One Word Will Make You A Millionaire

It’s something we all have access to

The human brain has come a long way. It’s the most advanced brain in the world that has evolved over time. I think we forget sometimes how powerful it really is and that we have access to this pretty amazing thing. Why am I yapping about the brain? Well, our brain controls our mindset. Our mindset is the known pattern that the brain already recognizes. It’s learned behavior over time.

Carol Dweck is a well known psychologist who is known for coming up with two mindsets the human brain develops. And they are “fixed” and “growth” mindset.

Fixed

Pretty self explanatory right? I like to compare this to school when we’re young. You get a bad grade on a test and you think you’re a failure, and never amount to anything. At least that’s what I thought. You have this fixation that the bad grade will predict what type of life you will have. We all know this not to be true, but I hope you get my point.

“Just because we failed at something, doesn’t mean it will predict future outcomes.”

When working towards something there of course will be roadblocks along the way. Someone with a fixed mindset will tend to give up when they fail at something or get pushed back with challenges. Challenges are going to happen, and either someone stops working towards their goal or they push forward. Someone with a fixed mindset tends to avoid conflict because it becomes challenging. So if not fixed — then what?

Growth

This would be the opposite of fixed. Someone with a growth mindset realized that they might not be good at something or quite understand it. But, they have the capability to learn it and work towards something great. People with a growth mindset realize that the whole process is a journey and having the tenacity to overcome the roadblocks is what’s going to make them succeed.

“Failure is seen as an opportunity to learn and improve.”

People with a growth mindset know that it’s a journey to where they want to go. They have goals. Big and small. But, they are for them and no one else. All individuals have the power to be who they want to be in the world. There will be obstacles, but they know they can overcome them. Failure is seen as moving forward and getting closer to what they want to accomplish.

The millionaire mindset

“How does mindset affect you in becoming a millionaire? “

Success starts in your head. And success for all of us looks very different. But, for this article let’s use it in terms of becoming a millionaire. What does that look like?

If you want to become a millionaire you need to first ask yourself why?

-Is it to provide for your family?

-To have more time to do the things you love?

-To give back — whether that be time or money?

-To travel the world?

-To spend time with your parents as they’re getting older?

Start to think like you’re already a millionaire. Think of it this way — if someone goes their whole life thinking they’ll never make the income they want or have the lifestyle they deem, do you think it will happen? Probably not. I saw my parents use phrases throughout my entire life that did not equate to a “growth mindset.”

Words such as,

-Can’t.

-NO.

-I don’t think so.

-Can’t afford it.

-I’m not smart enough.

If you can’t value yourself and believe you have something great to offer, how do you think you will become a millionaire? We all have value to offer in this life. Everyone has some type of value to provide. If you aren’t fully committed to creating wealth, do you think you will? Well that’s up to you to decide.

Growing up I realized I had negative stories surrounding people with money that I learned from my parents. Rich people are bad people. They have problems. They didn’t work hard, etc. These are just a few, but growing up we see families around us and what they’re teaching to their children. Patterns start to form — and unless we recognize them as we become adults they won’t change.

“You’re in the driver’s seat.”

Final thoughts

Take note of the thoughts you have surrounding wealth and money. What are they? Where did you get them from? Who said those things? It all starts in your mind — remember that. They way you think, act, and talk. What are you doing when no one is around? You may not be a millionaire just yet — but start thinking like one and you’re already halfway there.
