Summary

The website content calls for submissions of personal stories, poetry, and fiction centered around LGBTQ Pride experiences, inviting artists and writers to share their memories, hopes, and creative works in honor of Pride month, with a particular focus on a new two-week writing prompt titled "This One Time, at Pride Camp."

Abstract

The web content is a call to action for the LGBTQ community and allies to contribute their written works to "Prism & Pen," a platform that celebrates Pride month. It encourages submissions that reflect on personal experiences during Pride events, particularly from the early 1990s, and invites creative expressions in various forms, including stories, poetry, and fiction. The platform also emphasizes the importance of honoring the spirit of Pride through thoughtful verse. A new writing prompt, "This One Time, at Pride Camp," is introduced to inspire submissions that may range from real-life accounts to imaginative narratives. The website also announces an expansion of its submission categories to include artist interviews, reviews of queer-focused art, and stories about art and artists, thereby broadening the scope of content that can be shared with the community.

Opinions

  • There is an emphasis on the historical significance of Pride, with a nod to the early 1990s as a pivotal time for many individuals' first Pride experiences.
  • The inclusion of a specific writing prompt, "This One Time, at Pride Camp," suggests a desire to foster a sense of nostalgia and shared community experience.
  • The expansion to accept artist interviews and reviews indicates an appreciation for the intersection of art and LGBTQ identity.
  • The mention of submission guidelines indicates a commitment to maintaining a standard of quality and inclusivity for the content published on the platform.

This One Time, at Pride Camp

On your marks, get set, write!

It’s June and that means LGBTQ Pride! Even if your city or region holds events in different months, the world honors Pride together this month as we commemorate the June 1969 Stonewall riots.

My most intense memories of Pride center on the early 1990s, because those were my personal FIRST Pride months. What about you? What do YOU think about when you think about Pride?

It’s Prism & Pen prompt time, and we want YOUR Pride stories. Share memories, share hopes, share fears. Tell us what actually happened or craft some fiction to move us and shake us.

Don’t forget poetry. How better to honor the spirit of Pride than in thoughtful verse?

So, this is a little tongue in cheek, but our new two-week prompt is —

This One Time, at Pride Camp

And remember, you’re always invited to submit stories about anything at any time, so long as they fall within our guidelines.

New to Prism and Pen?

Here are those submissions guidelines.

Alert! We now accept artist interviews and reviews (book, film, music, etc) of queer-focused art, and stories about art and artists.
