This Lost Letter In Time
A story told through poetry

I found an old photo of my grandparents today I flipped it over to see it say “1943 at the diner on Avenue B” This was the day my grandparents vowed their love Before they shared in a final hug Before his deployment overseas At just the young age of 23 They knew that life for them was meant to be… Spending it together through eternity
But a war was raging And the long nights were cold Miles apart and every letter felt like finding gold After digging for hours, her sweet writings left him breathless But he couldn’t become reckless by the longing for her touch A bullet flew by and he remembered why he missed her so much
“It would all be worth it,” she would say He is doing his civil duty And I will continue to pray I will not just lay down and crumble So, it is my turn as a woman to learn how to stumble And send a rumble of laughter as I learn along the way I finally had my first monumental moment…my very first payday He would be so proud to see all that I can do
But nothing compares to those moments I last shared with you Sitting in the diner A snapshot in my mind You have and always will be, one of a kind I simply can’t wait until you come back So, I can finally forever call you mine
Sincerely yours, This letter lost in time
