This Little Thing Called BLOGspiration
How do you find ideas on what to write?
Are you lacking inspiration (or what I like to call BLOGspiration)?
Are you finding it hard to come up with topics to add to your content calendar that are fresh and compelling?
It can be hard to think of and write about fresh topics every time you blog. Not to mention you want to be writing creative content that captures peoples’ attention and engages them.
So how do all these amazing content creators keep coming up with brilliant ideas?
Where to find blog topics.
Here’s some top tips to help YOU be one of those inspired people with a gazillion fresh content ideas!
Research other bloggers in your niche.
Take the time to have a look at what other bloggers are writing about. I love reading other posts in my niche areas and drawing ideas from them. Not to mention whilst you are there you can pop in a comment that helps to build and promote your online presence.
Google your niche.
If your niche is post-partum fitness, pop it into Google and see what comes up. Or scroll through fitness websites aimed at post partum and see what the women are saying on there, what they are asking. This can help to come up with some amazing blog posts that target your audience.
Newspapers/magazines
What is going on in the world today? Have a read and you will be surprised by what topics will come to mind.
Old blog posts
Read through your old blog posts and see if you can revamp or put a slightly different spin on them.
Perusing through your old blogs may also help you see topics that could be explored more fully, or have a side blog about them.
Review your greatest hits.
Look through your Google analytics or website stats and see which posts performed the best. You can do a rehash of them, or a round up of “your greatest hits”.
Journal
Do you have a journal? It is a great way to capture ideas and work through roadblocks. If you have one, read back through it. I am sure there are plenty of ideas in there waiting to come out.
If you don’t have one, you should consider starting one. I don’t mean you have to do the whole “dear diary” cliché journal. It is more a book to keep your ideas, thoughts, inspirations and frustrations.
Read post comments.
Reading comments on blogs and social media posts from your own sites, and other bloggers will help you understand what your audience wants. This can help inspire so many topics the problem will be which one to start with!
A list post.
A list post is always a quick, and relatively easy blog to produce.
You can create a list of the best sites for new freelancers (as per your experience).
Or a list of your favourite winter recipes.
Or what about a list of the best exercises to strengthen your glutes?
Obviously it will depend on what niche you blog in. But it is an easy post for your audience to read, and for you to write!
Recruit a guest writer for a blog or interview.
Find a popular blogger in your niche and ask them to write a guest post or interview them.
This is a great way to create an interesting and unique post. Not to mention you can create new contacts and grow your audience. If they have a solid following, then by having them post or interview on your site can draw some of their followers to you as well.
Write a goals post.
A goals post is a great way to engage with your audience. It is personal and shows them what you want. You could write about short term or long-term goals, business or personal, anything you want really. As long as it relates back to your blog. You don’t want to go to far left field from your niche.
I mean, you don’t have to look far on Medium to see that goal posts (especially ones based on earnings) are super popular.
Reflect on the past.
Reflecting on past achievements, how far you have come or even frustrations and setbacks from the past is another way to create a relatable and interesting post.
Still stuck and needing more BLOGspiration?
If you have tried all the above tips and you are still stuck for ideas, then perhaps you need to try a completely different tactic:
- Take a walk; go to the gym or exercise.
- Change your scenery, for example go write outside in the sun, or at a café, library or park.
- Take a shower/bath.
- Take a few days off to recharge your batteries. There is nothing wrong with taking a few days off from your own blogging.
- Schedule in some personal time, whether it is by yourself like a massage or other pamper activity, or with some friends.
