This Light (A Sonnet)

GiaB writing prompt #15 illumination

He tries to open up the kitchen door, A deep dark hole appears out in the back. More handles on the door than seen before, He struggles to open it up a crack.

Open, he crawls outside on hands and knees, Swallowed inside an enormous cavern. A candle’s light flickering in the breeze, Cast shadows on elaborate carvings.

Look, there’s a scene from his past early life, He’s crying, staring at his childhood desk. A pool of mercury reflects back light, Of gleaming present time, it’s all grotesque.

Illuminated scene drifts far away, Wake up in bright sunshine, start a new day.
