This is Why You Must Never Take Anti-Biotics

for cold, flu, stuffy nose, bronchitis even if the mucus is thick, yellow or green

I recently came across a medical test report and I was dumb-founded when I read the name and age of the patient.

The report indicated that the patient was resistant to first-line of anti-biotics like amoxycillin, gentamycin, cotrimoxazole etc. and to second line of anti-biotics like norfloxacin, doxycycline etc. and to high end drugs like colistin, tigecycline etc.

The whole report just read “R” written in front of each drug indicating that the patient was resistant to all these drugs. Now, here is the saddest part, one assumes that the patient must be a 65 year old diabetic man with debilitating conditions and a long history of infections but no, it was a 2 year old boy, born healthy.

This poor child stands almost no chance of treatment if he is presented with a bacterial infection because no line of drugs work on him which begs the question, “Who stood him up for such a massive medical treatment failure at just the age of 2 ?”

The parents, when informed about this were shocked but when they were asked when and why did they administer so many anti-biotics to the child they casually replied every time the child got flu or fell sick with a viral infection.

Here is a revelation for people who love to pop in an anti-biotic as soon as they catch a viral infection,

Anti-biotics are designed for bacteria and bacterial infections. The name ‘biotics’ itself suggests it.

P.s. Anti-biotics do not work on viruses. They’re designed for bacteria NOT VIRUS.

Suspecting Bacterial Infection- Let’s say you think you have a bacterial infection, in which case you must get tested first to determine the strain of the bacteria and the extent of the bacterial infection.

There are thousands of types and not all anti-biotics are 100% effective against all kinds of bacterial strains. Most bacterial infections are treated with a combination of two or more anti-biotics and your doctor knows best about the combination of drugs you need. So kindly do yourself a favor and get yourself tested in the first place and save your at-home-doctory for later.

Getting tested will also eliminate the chance of an underlying infection undiagnosed or will help you catch a potentially harmful infection in its early stage.

Anti-Biotic Course- If you have already taken an anti-biotic, you must complete the 5–7 days course regardless of whether your fever and other symptoms have subsided or not.

Most people in our community stop the anti-biotics as soon as the symptoms subside. This will put you in terrible danger in the future. here is why,

When you discontinue your anti-biotic before it has effectively killed all the otherwise seemingly harmless bacteria, it means you have left a few alive. These bacteria then, undergo mutation to genetically alter their DNA/RNA and create resistance against the drug and start to become dangerous.

Next time when they restart the infection they are stronger since they are resistant to the drug you are going to take to fight them. In which case the drug does nothing for you and the bacteria in your body is now drug-resistant.

Anti-Biotic Resistance- Anti-biotic resistance happens when germs like bacteria and fungi undergo mutation and develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them.

This further means that the germs are not killed and therefore continue to grow.

Now here is the deadly part- Infections caused by anti-biotic-resistant germs are difficult and sometimes impossible to treat.

examples of anti-biotic resistant infections are-

  1. Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MARS)
  2. Penicillin-Resistant Enterococcus
  3. Multi-drug resistant Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MDR- TB)

Epidemic In-making- Careless use of anti-biotics might give rise to an epidemic of drug-resistant bacterial infections that will prove to be fatal since all the drugs will be rendered ineffective due to our erroneous lack of judgment and un-informed choices while using an anti-biotics.

Such an epidemic will be nearly impossible to defeat and fatal in most cases. On top of a pandemic we clearly don't want another fatal epidemic.

I’m honestly tired of explaining to people why they must not start anti-biotics at the start of every little viral infection and why they must continue the course if started till its due term even if the symptoms have subsided.

If you truly respect and adore us, medical and dental field professionals, do us a favor and create awareness about the anti-biotic usage to avoid a ‘Bacterial Drug Resistance Crisis’ in the future. Share this article to whomsoever you need to educate about anti-biotic usage and management.
