The One Word You Need Is: Persistence

2020 has been a rough year for each industry & each sector. The economic turbulence has affected the job market tremendously in a way that surpassed the infamous 2008 crisis. As per LinkedIn economist, Ph.D. Guy Berger, the rate of unemployment in the U.S. has reached 14.7% in the highest unemployment rate in the history of data, which peaked in Oct 2009 with a 10.0% rate (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

As the effects of the pandemic were catastrophic to certain companies like Airbnb who laid-off 25% of its workforce, and Uber who laid-off over 6,700 of it’s employees as a result of the 80% drop in its ride-hailing business; companies like the video conference platform Zoom has witnessed a breaking through that can never be cloned anytime soon, with a rise of its stocks value of 362% between Jan 31st & Jul 10th with its highest peak of $275.87 stock price.

Does this mean that people with no jobs shall quit searching & stop the hunt as the number of lay-offs is still in the rise? The answer is: NO.

Actually, in the past 24 hours alone, Microsoft has posted 30 new jobs all around the world; an impressive figure to see for a post-pandemic crisis that is telling us: companies are STILL HIRING!

Here’s why now more than ever, you need to look fiercely for a job & you can actually land one:

Reason One: All world is shifting remote

Even though that many people are suffering from home-schooling, the lack of space, 0-room to go out & the compounding pressure of lockdowns; a great new practice that resulted from the pandemic. is that companies like Twitter, Google & Palo Alto Networks have shifted to the remote work until the end of the year. In fact, Twitter was the first to announce that even once its. offices are ready to open up & start working on-site, all employees hold the right to work from home FOREVER if they choose to. What does that mean for job seekers? More pool of jobs to apply for as the geographic barrier is now removed from the equation.

Reason Two: Some companies are witnessing a BOOMING effect

Companies, whether big as Microsoft or less-bigger as Zoom, are thriving alike in what seems to be a booming time to expand & crush the market in a digital-first. economy. This resulted in MANY posted jobs on websites like LinkedIn, Glassdoor & Monster.

Actually, in the past 24 hours alone, Microsoft has posted 30 new jobs all around the world; an impressive figure to see for a post-pandemic crisis that is telling us: companies are STILL HIRING.

Reason Three: The digital skills are now ‘The trend’

And this is the best part for digital nomads -like myself- where any digital skill is now paying twice, if not more the money. If you havn’t got a solid digital skill already, then educational courses websites like Linda, Coursera & Udemy are the place you want to head to. Check the courses that are trending now, and do your homework on what kind of skills the companies are looking for RIGHT NOW. This can be anything from copy writing, or video editing to content creation — you name it! A crisis like this is not the time to lay down & gain weight, but it’s perfect WAKE UP CALL you needed. to go back to school; digital one this time.

Reason Four: The post-crisis shift will create a new job-market

Like. we witnessed post the 2008 crisis; new players would join the game, and the whole way. we operate business is not gonna go back to the same way it was before 2020. Even though some people think this has bad effects on certain industries -and. it would be naive to say it won’t-, but this will also create a new environment with new playground rules; and this will result in new market needs, which will translate in new opportunities that will need talents to fill in. If you are sharp enough to spot those needs where they occur, and you have the desicpline to learn the needed skills to stand out from the crowd; then you are destined to nail a job post this crisis.

This year has been something way different from anything we’ve witnessed or experienced before. Yet, this doesn’t give us. a green light to be pessemistic & expect the worse. Actually, you owe it to yourself to keep. your foot on the ground, hustle more, and work to nail that breakthrough opportunity you deserve this year; because you’ve earned it.
