This is why I stopped talking about “entrepreneurship” on social media

Most people don’t get it. Honestly, I’m even sick of it just like most people scrolling through Instagram and seeing fake-ness all over the place. Flashing Rolex’s that aren’t yours but pretending it is, renting a Rolls Royce and flexing it again like it’s yours… giving all the tips but no results… it’s silly.
Not gonna lie, in my early years (not that I’m not still in my early years) I made some of these mistakes also. I believe I made these mistakes because I looked up to false idols who were all doing the same. I thought they had it together, and then when the first network marketing company I was apart of got shut down by the FTC, most of those young guys I looked up to and desired to be like were unable to rebuild what they had. It was a very interesting learning experience.
Here’s the thing… you can still put out value even if you haven’t achieved what’s considered “massive success”. My strategy is I like to just speak from the standpoint of where I am currently in life. Ex. “I don’t yet have ___, but it’s my goal and this is the work I’m putting in on a daily basis to get there.” This is a lot more honest, real, and the biggest thing… it’s relatable to people consuming your content. Human beings have a sixth sense where they’re able to detect bullshit from a mile away.
Is the “laptop lifestyle” a real thing? Yes, I can very much tell you it is. This past November I had the biggest month in my online business… and it’s growing at a rate I can’t even keep up with right now. It’s literally insane. Here’s the thing though… I do it all part time. I am building my career as a chef full time, I’ll be finishing my red seal in culinary arts at NAIT this year which will be a huge accomplishment for myself. I train for olympic weightlifting as a hobby, and the hours I put into that are almost like a part time job… and then add in the focus on proper nutrition and sleep for optimal rest and recovery. I build my side business for about one hour per day from my laptop and my phone.
The fakes out there will tell you how easy it is, and I’ll just tell you that it’s simple… but it’s not easy. I’ve been doing this now for 6 years coming this November, and I’ve been made fun of by my family and friends, called stupid and crazy multiple times behind my back. I’ve faced a ton of rejection when prospecting and following up with potential customers… more rejection than your average telemarketer would handle if you can picture that. I’ve been putting out videos, blogs, articles just like this consistently since 2015 to not get nearly as big of a following or recognition as some 16 year old girl posting a selfie on Instagram.
Here’s the biggest difference between the fakes and the real entrepreneurs out there. You’ve gotta seriously love it, the daily work. Every prospecting message sent out, every follow up phone call, every article I write… I honestly love it. Those fakes are in some new deal every six months, and hiding what their real day to day life looks like it. The real ones will embrace it. I used to post pictures of myself driving my 99 civic when I still had it. I still talk about working in a busy restaurant full time, and building a business part time. It’s actually what my life looks like… not glamorous at all.
I hope this brought you value… much love,
Khalid
