Summary

The creator of a YouTube channel with 20,000 subscribers decided to abandon it due to waning interest in the niche topic of Planner 5D, a desire to start anew without the constraints of the channel's established identity, and past failures with other channels.

Abstract

In 2017, the author began a YouTube channel, which quickly gained popularity through content focused on the app Planner 5D, amassing 10,000 views and earning the creator $100. However, changes in YouTube's monetization policy resulted in the loss of earnings and channel monetization status. Despite reaching 20,000 subscribers over four years, the channel's relevance diminished as the trend for Planner 5D content waned. The creator, reflecting on

This Is Why I Ditched My 20,000 Subscriber YouTube Channel

Back in 2017, I made a YouTube channel and randomly started uploading videos.

At that point, I was unaware of copyright policy, I know it's childish. So then I got to know about Youtube guidelines and started making my videos.

I have a strong grip on an app called Planner 5D which is for floor planners and interior designs. So I made videos about it and my channel went viral.

In mid-2017, the YouTube channel needed 10,000 views to get monetized. In 8 months my channel got 10,000 views and it started making some money. I kept uploading videos and made 100 dollars.

Before I managed to get a withdrawal from Google Adsense, YouTube changed the monetization policy and I got nothing. Even my channel lost its monetization. At that point, I had around 1000 subscribers.

So I kept working and tried to get 4000 watch hours to get monetized again. After 4 years of inconsistent work, my channel managed to get 20,000 subscribers but it became a brand channel that is now only working on Planner 5D's videos.

Why I Gave Up?

So here is the answer to why I gave up on my YouTube channel.

  • The first reason is that there’s no more demand for Planner 5D. The trend is almost dead. So I don’t want to waste my time on that anymore. So you may ask “why not try making videos on other stuff?” Yeah. But as I told you my channel has its identity which is the app "Planner 5D". My subscribers are there to watch those videos.
  • Secondly, I want to start from scratch. I have tried two more channels apart from it. Both went to the failure zone.

But I believe in one thing, everything that happens to us comes with a reason. We just need to find it. Once we get that, we can improve our work to succeed.

For the past 3 months, I have been figuring out why my channels didn't work. And I got so many answers. YouTube is a technical career.

We see only the tip of the iceberg and we ignore hundreds of hours of technical work. That's why most people don't succeed on YouTube.

In a couple of months, I will start another YouTube based on information mostly on my Medium stories.

I will keep updating you with my stats on Medium.

Wish me luck!
