This Is What I Like About Gen Z:

Out of the many valid complaints I have heard out of older generations about Generation Z or “zoomers” I want to talk about the one positive trend I have seen from my peers of similar age within the same generation.

My favorite thing is as a generation, we have learned to say no to employers more. I have done this myself, but it really excites me to see that younger people are standing up to modern day employers unlike our parents. No, we will not come back to the office when our jobs can be done from home. No, we will not accept a non living or non respectable wage. Then my favorite, we will not do other things that are not in our job description without extra compensation.

I get it too, the older generation is correct about some younger people being lazy, and that is true but I think we all can admit that employers have been absolutely taking full advantage of employees for decades between unnecessary commuting, lower wages, and asking them to perform duties outside of their actual job.

I think a lot of this philosophy change stems from the fact that adults and the government through money printing, have made it nearly impossible to have the life we were promised in school. It’s nearly impossible to afford a house without a huge salary, which most young people don’t have, the majority of both men and women are not worth marrying due to various reasons, and student loan debt as well as the cost of living have crippled most young people’s finances. Due to these causes I just mentioned, that’s going to cause a reaction in behavior as a whole as well a change in philosophy and the problem is most older generations are to ignorant to understand why younger people are so different and what actually caused this to happen when they raised them in the first place.

Overall, seeing this change of a life balance philosophy has been really refreshing because it’s allowing more people of all ages to take more control of their lives even though a lot of pain had to happen to bring this philosophy on. After all, we only get one life right?
