I’ve come across posts here some writers celebrating their earnings while others getting disappointed.

It can be disheartening to see a decrease in metrics like views and reads that leads to poor earnings.

Plus other reasons that you might have in your mind, like writing poor content, etc, below are my views regarding the matter;

It is a lack of engagement from the writers themselves;

Whether they have a large following or just a handful of dedicated readers, failing to interact with others’ content could be a major contributor to your diminishing metrics.

Among the common pitfalls is falling into the echo chamber of one’s content. Many writers tend to focus solely on producing their articles, neglecting the vibrant community that Medium offers.

And even after they post articles, they don’t engage in their own posts, including not replying to readers in the comment section. Not only replying, they also don’t extend the conversation to make readers come again. Replies like “thank you, ok, you’re welcome”, and the like, do not make the conversation go further.

So, by not reading, commenting, highlighting others’ posts or their own posts, they miss out on a crucial aspect of the platform — the reciprocal nature of engagement.

Engagement is a two-way street on Medium. When they actively participate in discussions and support fellow writers, it creates a ripple effect.

Therefore;

Readers and writers alike are more likely to reciprocate, checking out your profile, reading your stories, and even saving them. This ripple effect not only boosts your metrics but also enriches your Medium experience.

By showcasing genuine interest in different topics and writers, you also learn to produce quality content, become an intriguing profile that others want to explore, positively impacting your visibility and metrics.
