This Is My Heritage When I Am Gone

May I be what I leave behind

Words are my children May they grow and thrive Nurtured by life’s vocabulary Once published will live forever

I will not survive This earthly Junction of body and spirit

But when I’m gone My words will live on

No longer hidden in wishing wells Of heart and mind But there in The cyber-sphere For all to heed

Spread on The bread of life Slices of me Toasted Buttered

Sweet jam of my soul To share with you

When I am gone My words will live on In poetry and song Stories short and long

My beautiful children

My heritage

Backstory

I wrote the original draft two years ago but had lost track of it when transferring data to my new laptop.

What a wonderful surprise to discover a piece from my early days of writing!

I’d composed songs most of my adult life, but the dream of a career in music had faded and died. I regretted the music and lyrics lying unheard in a dusty file.

Because I am not a mother, my newfound path of the written word led me to this reflection on the legacy I will leave behind when I die.
