This Is How Shadow Work Changed My Life
This needs to be taught at school

Unpopular opinion: Your mind can be tamed.
Before the summer of 2019, I thought my mind was the way it was always going to be.
I was being led by it because I was not leading it.
But this was all until I became truly interested in philosophy, psychology, and self-development. This shifted my mindset and made me realize that it was possible to wake up to a new reality once you change your way of thinking.
So I started working on discovering many methods and ways of thinking about changing your life by transforming your mind. But from all this new knowledge, one stood out from the rest, and it was called a method called “shadow work”.
This technique was basically realizing that one’s past can create cracks in the window where one sees the external world and learning methods of fixing this.
This new understanding was overwhelming to grasp at first because I felt that I needed to deal with all the past scars that I had done my best to avoid for many many years. But at the same time, it was a relief because this was also when I realized that I can set myself free of the burdens of the past.
I finally understood that triggers were not only triggers, and they were the keys to discovering the ways I needed to heal myself. So from this day on, I started welcoming the things that my subconscious wanted to avoid with all that it had.
Yes, it was not exactly a celebration, but at least now I could see them for what they were. They were not monsters to run away from, they were the wounded creatures that became violent due to their injury.
They needed care.
That’s why I did my research, read books, and experimented with methods to do shadow work. So whether it was writing or visualization exercises, I learned how to illuminate these shadow parts of my mind that were left neglected for too long.
By doing so, I was able to see that my mind could be my best friend, but it only needed to be tamed.
So I worked on doing that, and with time, I noticed how the way I see the world changed as I dived deep into doing shadow work.
From the first day I’ve learned about it to today, my mind has been transformed 180 degrees.
I’m now much better at leading it, rather than being led by it, and it has been truly life-changing for me.
So that’s why I wanted to share this experience of mine with my readers as well.
Thank you for reading.

PS: I also would like to add that sometimes these past wounds can be too much for us to deal with on our own, and thus asking for professional help can be wise.
