This is how much I made one month after being monetized on Medium

I still remember the first day I heard about Medium. I was very excited about it, especially considering the fact that anyone can make money from the articles they write.

Quick Backstory

I joined Medium around the 24th of December just a day before Christmas and I made sure to post an article on that very same day.

At first, similar to everything the stats were pretty low. But on the 28th I got 167 views with 2 hours worth of read time something that got me very motivated.

So I kept on writing and writing, until the 22nd of February when a lot changed. After 8 stories and a couple of thousand views in total, I published one article that went viral. Well maybe not crazy viral but to me it was VIRAL

When things changed

At the moment of writing this, my article titled “I stopped using Notion, this is what I use instead” has around 28,000 views with 216hrs and 52 minutes worth of read time. I don't know about you but for me, these numbers were absolutely insane.

I got accepted into the medium partner program on the 4th of March and at the time my viral article had already hit around 18 hours worth of read time. I monetized the article and wow wow wow everything went amazingly well.

I would like to thank Fabricio Teixeira for reaching out to me on the same day (The 22nd of February) about publishing in the BootCamp publication (which talks about resources and opinion pieces on UX, UI, and Product) as I am very positive that that was one of the major reasons this article blew up.

The publication has around 18,000 followers so I believe some aspects of it helped boost this article.

The article has made me $575 as we speak and it is still pulling in a couple of read hours a day.

It didn’t end there

Right after publishing my viral piece, I wrote another article titled “Top apps I use on a daily basis 2022”. This article became a success as well. not as good as my previous one but it's pretty amazing.

At the moment of writing this, that article has brought me $232 with a read time of around 85 hours.

My advice to other writers trying to grow and get such viral pieces

With all honesty, there isn't any specific advice that will guarantee you amazing results. All you have to keep doing is writing great and valuable articles and making sure that your articles have a very good flow, great visual format as well as the use of the right tags (this is super important as this is among what the algorithm abides by).

I have articles that have been doing good but of course, I also do have articles that have been doing bad. The algorithms of many platforms are unpredictable so all you have to keep doing is feed the algorithm with more valuable content and try your best to also connect with other writers by reading their articles that interest you and appreciating it by clapping and leaving a comment too.

After a month of being monetized, I have been able to pull in around $910 having written 22 stories. I am very grateful for this and of course, the algorithms are working so who knows maybe I might get way less this month but the key is consistency no matter what.

This article was not to show off in any way but to let you know that it is possible to pull in a couple of bucks with Medium or even make a living out of it with time. All you have to do is be consistent and make sure you find ways to improve your articles from time to time.

SMALL TIP: Anytime you have an article idea, hop into Medium and write it create a new story, set the title for the article then let it save as a draft story. That is how I find it easy to never run out of ideas and to have them all in one place just waiting for me to fill them with information.
