This Is How I Earned $100 on Facebook as a Freelancer

Got my first freelance project from Facebook

I got my first freelance project from Facebook as a Graphic designer. It was a $100 photo editing project. All I had to do was remove backgrounds, change colors, and some other things according to the brand.

I have been a Graphic designer for the last 5 years. I started freelancing on Fiverr almost a year ago and got my first project within roughly a month, but it was not from Fiverr. I got the project on Facebook by chance, even though it was not me who got the project. It was my cousin who got it for me.

He came across the project as he was browsing on Facebook. He found a post in which a person needed a graphic designer to edit some photos for his brand on Amazon. But the challenge was that all the freelancers had to pass a test made by the client to get the project. So my cousin participated in that test on my behalf without asking me. And then after some time he told me that I have participated in a photo editing test on your behalf and you have to win it to get hired for the project. And I said OK, because I was also looking for my first project to give my freelancing career a start.

How I passed the test

So what was the test? — The client gave all the freelancers a photo of a girl in a yoga pose and told us to change its background and replace the girl’s face with any other girl but we have to make it realistic.

I wondered, what I could do differently to pass this test, and then an idea hit my mind. I started making my own background and tried to match it perfectly with the foreground. I designed the background with the same colors as the girl in the photo and also gave my background a yoga and meditation theme, which gave me success in the test and I got hired for the project.

That was 50 photos for $100 which means $2 each. It was photos of some girls on yoga swings and all I had to do is to remove the background, change the color of the yoga swings, and some other tweaks to make it look like his brand’s yoga swings.

I asked him to give me the project on Fiverr so that I could get a review which will give my profile the initial boost. So he did everything I wanted. He was very kind and calm. He also told me to edit some extra things in the photos and I did it without asking any questions. For which he gave extra $22 as a tip but unfortunately Fiverr took its 20% commission from it and left almost $98 for me.

Final Thoughts

I have not been that active as a freelancer, but I think freelancing is the easiest and quickest way to earn money online. I am not saying that if you start today, you will get your project tomorrow. It will get you months to get your first project and then another one in weeks, and then days, and then multiple projects per day. Freelancing is a slow success field where you will have to wait to achieve success. It’s also not compulsory to get $50 or $100 on your first project. In my case, I was lucky to get my first project of $100 on Facebook, but it’s not always like this.
