This is For the White People Who Are Confused About Being Caucasian

Calling yourself Caucasian doesn’t make it so. The majority of White people in the U.S. and even Europe are nowhere close to being Caucasian, so why do so many of you still use the term to identify yourselves? It’s bad enough that Whiteness is a manmade and super damaging construct, but calling yourself Caucasian on top of that is just plain delusional… for most of you.

This is what happens when you insist on not examining or critiquing Whiteness, though. By using language describing science proven to be false and that which keeps people divided, you’re actually doubling down on the lie of it all. So, let’s go back to the beginning and understand where you got the idea of being Caucasian from.

The Brief Backstory Of Caucasian Caucasity

In the late 1700s, German physician and anthropologist Johann Blumenbach visited the Caucasus mountains which include parts of Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. In observing human skulls from that region, he declared its native inhabitants to be the most beautiful examples of the human species. While describing his findings and thoughts, Blumenbach referred to the people there as Caucasian. Believing that all humans must have descended from these people and believing that Europeans were also among the earth’s first inhabitants, Blumenbach included Europeans under the newly created racial category Caucasian.

To solidify this new category’s place at the top of a still blooming racial hierarchy, Blumenbach created four lesser racial categories before ranking all five from the most intelligent to the least. In his opinion, Caucasians were at the top of the list and Black Africans at the bottom with Asian, Pacific Islander and Indigenous in between. It’s important to specify Black Africans here because eventually North Africans were classified as Caucasian, too. I’m paraphrasing quite a bit, but (as you should always do so anyway) you can look this up on your own and read the full story of how this faulty label for White people came to be.

In 2022, we know none of what Blumenbach purported is truly scientific in reasoning or fact. So why do people continue to identify themselves as Caucasian? Why do official forms and paperwork still offer Caucasian as an option when identifying oneself?

Well, for the same reason people continue to identify themselves as White. It benefits them. And even while knowing it’s a harmful social construct, those whom it benefits aren’t the list bit interested in correcting the record. Doing so would actually mean race isn’t real and while that’s okay to say when one expresses a desire to be colorblind, it’s apparently not okay when people want to do away with Whiteness, too.

Certainly, there are some who do not know any better. In part because they choose not to, but also because they’ve never been led to question things they’ve been taught from childhood until now. Many will say they wish race didn’t exist — that they wish there was something they could do to create a raceless society — but all the while they continue to uphold Whiteness (which is the linchpin of the racial hierarchy) and identify themselves according to a misnomer which, at this point, is just an outright lie.

But here we are.

Oh and as an interesting side note, Armenians are actual Caucasians. Can any of you who aren’t Caucasian, but who’ve been led to believe you are, explain to the rest of us why Armenians had to sue the United States government — not once, but twice — in order to be legally classified as White?

So whether you knew better before today or not, you know better now. Most of you are not Caucasian. In fact, very few of you actually are. And, no, you don’t have to take my word for any of this, but do take a few minutes to Google for yourself and see. You’ve been lied to about your so-called race and race, in general, your entire life.

Despite what you may want to believe, you are not powerless to change things. Just like this racial chaos and confusion was created, it can also be destroyed. So, tell us, what do you intend to do about it?
