This is Beauty

My subjective definition in exactly 150 words

What is “beauty”?

“Beauty” cannot be defined; it truly is “in the eye of the beholder.” But for me, the beauty of other human beings lies, as F. Fraser Bond suggested, in their integrity, kindness, and honesty.

Self-confidence — not arrogance or hubris — is beautiful. It need not distract from its flaws; it doesn’t dress itself in elaborate clothing nor hide its nakedness in make-up.

My grandfather used to say, “Pretty is as pretty does.” The most physically unattractive person is made beautiful through their actions, and their treatment of others.

The natural world is breathtaking with its beauty, even — perhaps most impressively so — in the display of sheer power that reminds us we are not always powerful or in control. We do not dominate the earth, and if we fail to care for it, it will end us.

“Beauty” is a subjective opinion. This is mine.
